Day 20
Prompt: trapdoor
Characters: Bonnie Bennett, Klaus Mikaelson

As she stands at the edge of the field, she realizes something: Hope rarely smiles.

In a way, she had been warned of this when she was given the position.  The child’s aunt had chosen other words of course: she is sensitive, do not push her too far too fast but Bonnie can now read between the lines.  Hope is unhappy — a state to be expected given her tragic history thus far.

She stands, hands clasped together as she watches Hope mime playing.  The girl runs (at a speed that astonishes Bonnie).  She picks flowers (Bonnie is often lulled to sleep by the smell of lavender).  But she does not give herself over fully to the task.

Bonnie’s heart breaks.
