Not only did The Originals whitewash New Orleans but they made it so these literal wealthy Anglo Saxons were the ones who built the city. They aligned with slave owners and forgive me if I don’t care about a bunch of whites especially Klaus “reclaiming” the city. Making black and brown people villains, Mikaelson family literally using black bodies, Hayley made into werewolf princess when it should’ve been Tyler in that leadership role

It’s funny while I will agree that TO is better in terms if quality compared to TVD, it definitely isn’t in the racism department. That was thrown out the window the moment they decided to set the show in NO, one of the few cities in the US that has a majority black population, and 90% of the main cast is white. Like that had to be a conscious decision just like setting TVD in 1864 (it’s the 1500s Italy in the books), Civil War era in the south no less, and completely ignored slavery even going so far as to call Emily Katherine’s handmaiden. Those weren’t happy accidents caused by ignorance, that’s just having a whitewashed view on the world and trying to hide it with “diversity” (and by that I mean the casting a few characters of color and calling it a day without even thinking about how they’re being represented).

And, oh dear lord, the white savior plot with Klaus and Marcel, one of the most poorly thought out storylines of the show, especially when the Mikaelsons started expecting gratitude for granting him a basic human right.

While I wasn’t a fan of how Marcel ran the city, essentially a dictatorship especially when it came to witches and oh, the werewolves–I always likened werewolves to the Native Americans of the show, but TO went as far as to actually banish them to reservations–but I was always more on his side because the issue I’ve always had with Klaus is his entitlement. Marcel worked hard to get what he had and Klaus feelings of entitlement to that because he “saved” him was just peak Plec–like how can she claim to still be this ignorant.

And don’t get me started on Hayley. Weirdly, I would have been alright if the baby was actually Tyler’s–at least then I know he’d get some focus because the writers don’t care about him unless he’s with a white girl. But overall I would have been more interested in exploring the Lockwood, characters we’re actually familiar with, instead of Hayley, rando girl number 3 there just to cause trouble for Tyler. Much like the Bennetts there’s a lot missing from their origin and will continue to be missing because his entire family line was wiped out.

We could’ve had Bonnie and Tyler growing extremely close when he triggered the curse, and discover he’s from a royal werewolf bloodline and goes to New Orleans with Bonnie to help the wolves and witches.

There’s only one ship I can even remotely ship over Bonkai and that’s Tonnie. Probably because they’re the most marginalized characters in the series and seeing them thrive together would just be perfection.

Although if Kai was in the mix I still don’t know if I could I could have in a relationship over him. Dark!Bonnie just appeals to me in a molecular level.

uh no disrespect to hope mikaelson but no one does it better than bonnie mother’effin bennett

Full disrespect to Hope MiKaelson. She literally exists as a way to disrespect the entire Bennett line because Plec can’t “relate” to a witch if she’s black, so she created white witches so that witches could have agency while leaving the witches of color as servants. All Hope does is continue that legacy so, yes, full disrespect for a character born out of disrespect.

Bonnie and Kai crafting prison worlds except they’re places for their children to train their immense powers safely. It’s perfect. You can’t die there, the worlds can resemble any environment.

This is what the prison worlds were intended for when the Bennetts created them but just like with the merging ceremony the Geminis found a way to bastardize it. It’s different with the Parker-Bennett kids, namely the Bennett part that needs to get it’s origins back since they’ve almost been completely wiped out.

There’s a door in the Parker-Bennett house, which leads to a customizable artificial world. The passage of time can be manipulated so a year inside is an hour outside but you don’t really age. Young witches and warlocks emerging stronger and wiser.

Like, I get that apparently, witches in Esther’s bloodline, firstborn ones, are born with devastating power but that still don’t explain why Hope is basically magical jesus. I am tired of the white chosen one narrative, uwu blessed white child. Kai and Bonnie’s children would have multiple reasons as to why they’re powerful

I always wide-eyed people who call Estger the Original witch because a) just completely inaccurate there were witches well before her and that’s noted in the episode explaining her origins, and b) the spell that made her famous was stolen from Ayanna Bennett who was an ancestor of Qetsiyah, the originator of that spell. Pretty much everything she did was built on the backs of the Bennetts, they just don’t get the credit–they never get the credit they just always end up in the servant position while the show kept trying to pass it off as “best friend” or my personal favorite “handmaiden”.

The moment Esther is introduced, the first white witch on the show, is the moment witches started getting more agency, but only of they were white. With her introduction the number of black witches, the default up until that point, starts dwindling, and it was as though Plec was saying, “ah, witches I can finally write for” because it was only then that they stopped being servants.

So after observing this I don’t mess with white witches on the show whether it be Hope, or Wonder twins, or even Liv and Luke. I need more than them being white to explain their emense power and agency, which Kai had. I knew why he was so powerful, first dependent on the amount of power he absorbed, then due to the fact that the collective power of the Gemini coven.

And then there’s Bonnie, there’s almost a “chosen one” attribute to her, but she never gets to enjoy it, she never gets to have agency over her magic which is what eliminates her from that category, but that doesn’t stop people from complaining. Over the years I’ve seen more complaints about the Bennetts being apart of every big magical event than I have about Hope, and the wonder twins near God like level of magic which is crazy when you consider they’re all plot-hole characters to begin with. It angers people that Bonnie is supposed to be so powerful which after all she had been through I don’t understand why. There’s more explanation for her prowess as a witch than there has been for any other character, but they didn’t have issues with that.

So in short, I’m tired of the “white chosen one” narrative too especially even within these narratives the Bennett line has done more impressive things, they just are never acknowledged.
