Mason liked to watch Bonnie sleep. She always joked that it was a wolf thing, some latent guard dog instinct. Perhaps it was. He was protective of her on sight. Posturing and trying to display his strength, helping her move those tables during Carol’s charity event. Most women would’ve seen right through him, but Bonnie had her own secrets and she was more surprised by his interest in her than what he had been trying to hide about his family.
Bonnie only ever looked at peace while she slept, it was the only time she was comfortable and completely at ease. He made her happy, he knew, but their waking hours held too many dangers and too many monsters for either of them to let their guard down completely. In sleep, Bonnie’s walls melted.
Mason reached out ran his fingers through her hair, kissed her shoulder, breathed in her scent. He loved it, touching her, being close to her. He loved her. He loved her so much that it scared him. So much that it put the wolf on the inside on edge and at ease all at once. So much Mason knew that if he ever lost her, he would die. It wasn’t an exaggeration or just pretty words, she was his reason for existing, the key to his very survival.
He could never find the right words to convey all that she meant to him. He was a man of devotion, wolves mated for life, but he wasn’t a man of many words. He could be smooth when he wanted, but it was hard for him to be sincere, vulnerable, even with her.
Still when Bonnie shifted in her sleep, eyes opening to meet his and whispered, “You’re staring again.” Mason couldn’t help but reply, “And you’re the single best thing that’s ever happened to me.” Bonnie’s slow sweet smile made the words right, it made them worth it.
Gently touching her face think of the kids 😱
Seriously going through what’s being flagged as “explicit” has been a hilarious journey because most of it is completely innocent posts. I’d be laughing more if they weren’t being serious with this.
I mean I agree. I don’t really try and defend my absurd inner BonKai fangirl either way because he still was a sociopathic murderer before the merge and tried to kill Bonnie like, a lot, but I suppose that is true to some degree.
I disagree with this on a lot of levels mainly because there are a lot of people such as myself who ship this as a dark ship pre-merge and all. And even if that wasn’t a factor that doesn’t really scratch the surface of the differences.
Chemistry: The reason why in spite of everything you love Bonkai but not Delena, and the same with most Bonkai fans, very few like Delena and that’s because their chemistry doesn’t have the draw of Bonkai. It’s visceral, it’s there the moment their on screen together. While Delena it’s lacking in a lot of ways mainly with how they portraying the characters together. They kept trying to convince us that they were explosive and had so much sexual tension, and what they ended up giving us was a repetitive mess.
Power Dynamics: While Damon and Kai have hurt both girls there is a vast difference in the power each girl has to defend herself. Not only that but there’s a vast difference in why they’re hurting them. Kai hurts Bonnie in response to her hurting him. His attacks aren’t completely unwarranted because how are you supposed to treat the girl who killed you with a pickaxe? And in kind, Bonnie can, and will, defend herself with the same force he uses. Elena can’t do that, but worse, she won’t, and Damon knows that. He holds all the cards–even admits it in season 8–Elena forgives him for everything. And when Damon hurts Elena it’s completely unwarranted. Boo Hoo, his feelings are hurt, that doesn’t warrant bodily harm to her and her loved ones.
Relationship Dynamic: As much as Plec would like to believe that Delena is a dark ship, it isn’t. It doesn’t have any of the elements of a dark ship but it does have the elements of an abusive relationship which would be dark if that’s how the relationship was played narratively. Delena, of course, was meant to be the bad boy tamed by the good girl and then is redeemed (which I’d like to note isn’t dark either, so Plec was failing even more than already was). The problem with this is Damon is never “tamed” which weirdly makes complete sense because he never has any consequences from Elena or anyone. Further, she tried to have Elena “corrupted” to tack on to the “dark ship” thing she was going for but that doesn’t work either because Elena has about as much character development as Damon does, i.e none. So what you end up with is the mess that is season 5 where the dark dynamic is forced through an on and off again relationship. That’s not dark, that’s just ship wank. Bonkai have that dark dynamic Plec was going but never had the presence of mind to create. It mostly happens due to the chemistry of the actors. When Bonnie objects to something Kai does, she truly does object and does something about it, but what separates it from the generic villain/hero dynamic is the underlying sexual tension. Every scene Chris and Kat make it seem like they want to jump each others bones but without losing sight of the characters or their motivations. You don’t have that with DE. Elena voices her displeasure with Damon, but a) never does anything about, b) keeps “hoping” he’ll get better, and c) there isn’t the same tension there as there’s with BK. You don’t feel like they want to be together, and that’s due to Nina and Ian not being able to convey what Plec wants which I guess comes down to chemistry again. And then there’s the matter of corruption, what truly dips into the depths of darkness. Kai had an effect on Bonnie, when she came back she was more fierce, selfish, and cut throat. They weren’t even a couple and he had more of an effect on her than Damon ever did Elena. The most he did was make her slightly more dismissive than she already was (and trust me she was always that flippant, she’s always been blinded by the dick).
Likability: Let’s face, as characters Bonnie and Kai have a lot more to offer in general, but are also just simply more likable. Elena, as much as they tried to make her relatable, she just became the the bland damsel in distress, and Damon, he was a character with absolutely zero motivations so he just came off as an asshole. Together they were so insufferable they tanked the ratings. Bonnie and Kai actually saved the show, they were the reason for the boost in ratings because Kai was the first interesting new character in a while, and Bonnie was finally getting some much needed screen time and development, and together on screen they were explosive. They were finally the edgy ship the show had been waiting for, but got cut for bland and blander’s repetitive nightmare.
A Klonnie Birthday Drabble for @irresistible-revolution (because we all know how Klaus feels about birthdays)
The phone rings; it is late and she has sleep in her eyes when she finally manages to grab hold of it. Pressing it to her ear she mumbles a greeting.
Then cringes.
“A little birdie told me that it was your birthday.” Klaus’ voice is smooth and she knows wherever he is, he is smiling as if that will charm her into submission.
Bonnie debates hanging up the phone. She has better things to do than to humor him. Instead she finds herself shifting in her bed, sitting up. “ — for exactly…” She glances at the clock. “…four more minutes that little birdie is right.”
He hums into the line. “I love birthdays.”
She makes a face, as if he has just told her that he enjoys parasailing or knitting. “Funny, you have tried to ensure that I would never celebrate one again on more than one occasion.”
There is a pause. She wonders if that smile is still on his face.
“Business. You know how it is.” Another pause. “But I do enjoy the idea of you aging like fine wine…”
She scoffs. “I’m hanging up now.”
“ — and miss a hint about my present?”
She freezes, all systems on high alert. She is fairly certain the last thing she wants is a present from Klaus Mikaelson. “Don’t worry about it. I don’t want to start a thing — you know, when your birthday rolls around I am empty handed I’ll feel guilty.”
“I am pretty sure that when my birthday rolls around we will celebrate it properly.”
“Excuse me?” She blinks, her mind trying to piece together just what he means.
“That’s the hint.”
Then he ends the call, leaving her sitting up in bed watching the clock count down the last minutes of her birthday.
She decides she should probably eat the rest of her cake. You know, before his present arrives and everything else tips upside down.
It’s chocolate after all, and chocolate is her favorite.
Synopsis: Klaus reached out and took her face in both hands. His thumbs grazed her cheeks and he tilted her head up. Her green eyes were bright and his breath caught as he admired her beauty.
“No, loved, and you never loved me, you loved the booze and the sex. There’s a difference.”
“Whatever you tell yourself.”
“You know what, fuck you!”
“In case you forgot, I already did.”
“You have never loved anyone or anything in your entire life, and it took way too long for me to figure that out.”
“I love you.”
“Stop saying that! I know you don’t mean it!”
“But I do, Bon. I love you. My life’s shit without you.”
“Your life was shit with me.”
“Yeah, but it was better. Everything was better with you, so much better that I didn’t even notice the shit.”
“What do you want Damon?”
“You, Bon.”
“I don’t believe you.”
