To be honest anon I am exhausted. I have been working a lot of overtime and this job is becoming more irritating by the day and I am still working on my portfolios for grad school so I have been getting little to no sleep. You are not annoying, you are actually giving me a brain break with these asks. It just might take me a while to answer them.
Okay, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I loved the show but before that I loved the movie. Honestly, since Bonnie is a cheerleader whose family has a history of taking down vampires it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to do this story line with her. No I wouldn’t do it with any of the other girls because they honestly could never fit that role for me.I mean Buffy is just this normal girl who gets all this power that she didn’t ask for and she is thrust into the world of the super natural and has to fight like hell to keep the people she cares about safe when all she wants to do in maintain a normal life, who else does this describe but Bonnie. (No one reply to this with Elena because a) what power does she have besides her golden vagina and b) she chose that world again and again for Stefan and then Damon and whatever selfish reason, she talks about protecting people a lot but when has she ever outside of maybe a few times in season one but honestly lets not even call it that because truly her protection led to more disaster all her family died to protect her or due to someone targeting her when clearly the universe wanted her dead and all her motivations are dick related so don’t @ me.)
I think it would be cool to amp up the witch mythology. I would like the idea of the slayers all being witches, Servants of Nature and all that and their role being a part of the whole keeping the balance thing that TVD claimed but never really expanded upon and never really let any witch do as they were all portrayed as slaves to vampires, particularly witches played by minorities but not going down that road.
The basic plot line already has a lot of good frame work, Buffy had some clairvoyant abilities and prophetic dreams to turn the slayer mythology into witch mythology or blend them wouldn’t be hard and would honestly be pretty cool to work through. Also I would love if Bonnie had Buffy’s physical enhancements and we could be spared from the nosebleed thing and Bonnie could fight physically and not just with her powers. I would love to see Grams as her Watcher, maybe have her be separated from her Bennett side for her own protection and then have Grams appear in a Giles fashion and upend Bonnie’s world (though I could see Jonas Martin as a Watcher too) . Then we could see their growing relationship and Bonnie could have consistent guidance in a way that she never had on TVD. I think I would go with Matt as Xander, it would have to be either him or Jeremy and I don’t fucks with Jeremy for real so Matt it is. In the case of Willow I would honestly strip her of the witch title and give some of her arcs to Bonnie in this case and maybe kind of combine Willow and Buffy into one role. Or have Elena be a Willow-esque character but keep her mortal and keep her role to a minimal just because she annoys me. Honestly if I did a gender role switch I could always do Elena as Xander and Tyler in a Willow-esque (not personality wise but in terms of the friendship) role and replace the witch stuff for her, with werewolf lore, which could be cool.
I like the idea of Greta as Faith and Caroline as Cordelia. Honestly, I feel like Stefan would just have to be Angel like the amount of tortured soul brooding face dark interior mess of both characters makes them basically two sides of the same coin. As far as Spike, I’m going with Klaus on that one. Damon would be another candidate I suppose but nah…sticking by the Klaus choice. The push and pull of it, the sexual tension, definitely gonna go with Klaus. Also since a lot of the TVD plot points were stolen from…. excuse me “inspired by” Buffy (including the Scooby Gang nickname), even though they had actual source material to draw from, I don’t think it’d been hard to integrate the two into something new while staying true to the characters.
i love the living shit out of her and i wish this whole cancer plot (which is underwritten anyway) could go away
BUT what we saw on screen was: white lives matter more than black lives
not because liz is familiar to us, but because black lives are expandable on this show
we can afford to kill these non-characters as long as our white audience doesn’t identify with them
that is the message they are indirectly going with
*and this has been an ongoing thing for several seasons. remember when caroline killed that male POC in 2×02? and it was taken as an unfortunate but forgivable accident because we love caroline and she is just a baby vamp who doesn’t know any better??*
This season alone – fake Sarah Salvatore (who I really, really liked…) was killed for no reason. Her mom was killed to give Damon back-story. Including non-black POCs, Stefan’s girlfriend was also killed for no reason.
Going back – Enzo’s love (Martha?) was killed pointlessly. The Martins all died. The cute black tomb vampire died!! Bonnie’s dad died. Sheila died. There was also the girl Tyler killed… or did she get her neck snapped by Katherine at the party? I can’t even keep track anymore.
What really pisses me off though is that ALL of the witches and warlocks were black – which people complained was racist trope – UNTIL they got complex storylines. Now they’re white. I love Kai, but that is bullshit.
We’ve known Bonnie for 6 seasons, and she was deliberately *not saved* in order to save Liv (who we’ve known for one season), and Jo (who we only just met) – decisions made by people who have known her for a very long time (if not all her life) and who both owe their lives to her.
