Failed Bonkai Drafts [2/5]

This one ends on an incomplete note as well, but at least it’s not mid sentence. I truly do not know what she was going to say and I have a feeling that I didn’t when I wrote which is why that’s where I stopped and started a new draft because I as running out of time.

Coming Home

Bonnie stood outside her home. Her house may have been a few
blocks away, but this was home. This was the place she felt most safe and she
hadn’t been able step foot in it since Grams died. She was the reason she
called this home and she feared the empty feeling that would come from her not
being there. Her father hired movers to put all hers stuff in storage. He had
planned on selling the place and her stuff, but Bonnie had insisted. She knew
that she would come back someday.

Kai walks past her groaning from holding a heavy box. “I
still don’t understand why we couldn’t hire movers. It would have been lot
easier.”

Bonnie gives him a look. “Because I did want strangers
touching my stuff.”

“Well, can we at least use magic?” Kai whines.

“Kai, I’m not using magic on something as trivial as moving
boxes.”

“And you don’t have to.”

“We’ve been over this, there are something you need to
experience the old fashion way.”

“And this is one of them?”

“This is one of them.”

“Whatever you say my dear, you’re lucky I love you.”

“And you’re lucky I tolerate you.”

It was his turn to give her a look which she returns right
back.

“Come on get a move on it, you only move into you’re first
place once.”

He shakes his head and does what she says. “The things I do
for love,” he mutters to himself.

Later that evening when all the boxes are inside and they
sit on the floor in their living room with only a box of pizza between them and
candles as their only lighting. It would almost seem romantic if they both
weren’t so exhausted. It was amazing what the accomplished by themselves. The
only thing they had left to do was get the furniture out of storage.

Kai takes one last bite and throws the crust into the box.
He stares at Bonnie watching her eat. He clears his throat.

“So you want to tell me why this meant so much to you?”

“Moving in with my boyfriend? I thought that meant a lot to
both of us.”

“It does, but why did it have to be just us, no movers, not
even your friends.”

“Maybe I just wanted to get you alone.” She start to crawl
her way to him.

He smirks. “And you needed manual labor to do that?”

“How else was going to get you all nice and sweaty.” She
closes the gap between them and sits in his lap.

“I can think a few ways.”

“Want to show me them.”

He captures her mouth in a kiss and grabs her hips pushing
her down on him. She grinds on him in return. As she starts pushing him onto
his back he stops them leaving Bonnie wanting more.

“As awesome as this is, and trust me it’s awesome, you still
haven’t answered my question.”

Bonnie sighs in annoyance. “You’re going to think it’s
stupid.”

“Why would I think anything that comes out of your mouth is
stupid?”

“Because it is.”

“Then tell me anyways.”

“No.” She burrows herself in his shoulder.

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Banana.”

“What?”

“C’mon just tell me.”

“You going to have to work harder than that.”

Do you think that saying Vampire Elena was a character assassination is a cop out for Elena Stans? Because she always had those annoying qualities people complained about in later seasons, vampirism just amplified them meaning that characterization was actually on point.

stellanoble:

Yeah, I would agree that’s a bit of a cop out. However, I understand how Elena stans would feel blindsided come season 4 of TVD.

Elena’s character is written so badly after season 2. She is presented as the “end-all be-all”, a Mary Sue if you will, but that idea of Elena being a good person is never shown to the audience. In fact, we were shown the exact opposite. But we were told over and over again how amazing she was.

We were told that she was still amazing and selfless, but we were shown that she was self-centered, callous, and co-dependent.

We were told that she was so humane and moral, but we were shown that more often than not, she was willing to hurt/sacrifice anything and anyone to get what she wanted.

We were told she loved Stefan more than anything, and we were shown her flirting, kissing, and making eyes at his brother.

So, I think Elena’s character is a prime example of the writing rule “Show, Don’t Tell.”  Dont tell me this character is what every girl wants to be. FUCKING SHOW ME.

And since TVD vampirism justs makes the person more emotional, more of who they already are… well, Elena becoming a vampire just expanded on the traits the writers had already shown us. So yeah, I’d say the characterization was on point. I think the Elena Stans who say it isn’t just may be focusing on what they were told, and not what we all were shown – which, to be fair, isnt their fault. It’s Julie Plec’s and Caroline Dries’ fault.

I think before season four, all of those traits could be chalked up to Elena being a teenager. Those are things we all are at 17. We think we know everything about everything, and Elena embodied that selfishness in a believable way.
There was the opportunity to have the character grow as a person, particularly because she insists that Stefan save Matt. So much could have been built upon that. It could have been healthy yet dark, and dramatic transformation.

But instead we got Evil!Elena, Whiny!Elena and SireBond!Elena – who we were still being TOLD was the end-all be-all, and worth sacrificing your life for.

But not once did the writers SHOW us that Elena was worth the trouble.

And it was more of the same in the later seasons. Like I’m supposed to believe this bipolar chick, who loses her shit and becomes completely useless when someone she cares for is hurt, who makes the worst decisions in EVERY situation, who makes everything about her, and who has no problem committing genocide (Kol) because it serves her needs has the mental and emotional capacity to be a DOCTOR?
