#26 the one where you have the date your soulmate will die on your wrist.
The first time Bonnie’s heart stops beating it’s before Tyler
knows what she is. It’s before he knows what he is. Before he realizes that the
world around him isn’t what it seems in more ways than one.
He’d always thought that he had more than one soulmate. That
his being would be tied to more than one person. One died early so that left other
options. He was always one to get around when it came to girls. Why else would
there be two dates etched under the first on his wrist? What other explanation
could there be?
The first date was the day of the 60’s Decade Dance. Tyler got
so drunk that night he couldn’t drive himself home. He couldn’t stop staring at his wrist as Matt
drove him home. He wondered what she might have been like. He wondered what
would’ve happened if he had just gotten the chance to meet her. Could he have
saved her? When the clock struck midnight and the date blacked out Tyler blamed
the alcohol for his tears.
Caroline happened and Tyler decided when she did that she’d
make a good place filler. She was fun and sexy and bubbly and she believed he
could be a good person. The date on her wrist was years out and he understood
it. Now that he knew what she was it made sense for her soulmate to die decades
from their own time. It made sense and it made Tyler feel better for taking her
away from whoever he or she was for a bit.
Sometimes Caroline stared at the blacked out date on his
wrist, above the second date etched beneath it and she looked as if she wanted
to ask him. She never did.
The first time Tyler died he wasn’t surprised that Bonnie Bennett
had a hand in saving him, even without her magic. Senior Prank night and he
ended up with his neck snapped on the floor of the gym after being force fed
Klaus’s blood. His spirit watched from somewhere in between while his body
transitioned as Matt died to save him and Bonnie saved Matt and brought him
back.
Something clicked in Tyler’s head as Matt coughed up water
and Bonnie looked at him with those eyes full of fear and loss and gratitude
that Matty was still alive. He hadn’t paid enough attention before but her eyes
were beautiful. She was beautiful. What
clicked in that moment wasn’t Bonnie’s beauty though. It was Matt, dying and then
coming back.
He followed Matt and Bonnie from the pool and watched as
Bonnie paused. She stopped as she turned around and looked right at Tyler
though is form wasn’t corporeal. She frowned and reached to touch him. Her hand
cupped his cheek and he could feel it. Wherever he was, was cold and dark and
deep. He could feel nothing when he woke up dead in the in between. But he felt
Bonnie.
Tyler stared shocked. He thought maybe it was her powers. But
then he looked at her wrist. He saw it then, the date. He watched as it blacked
out but like his there was another underneath.
Then Tyler was back in his own body and different and feral,
he took the blood that Klaus gave him and completed the transition. He stared
at Bonnie Bennett with her eyes that were more beautiful than anything that he
had ever seen. His wolf howled on the inside. He broke up with Caroline the
next day. She didn’t look surprised and she smiled sadly as she told him the
story of the first time Bonnie died.
When Tyler showed up at Bonnie’s house she didn’t look shocked
to see him. She just smiled a knowing sort of smile and when he kissed her she
didn’t pull away.
Tyler still stared at the dates sometimes. On his wrist. On
Bonnie’s. He thought about the time he had wasted. All the time they could have
been spending together had he known what he now knew and felt so intensely. He
couldn’t imagine not knowing that Bonnie was his and was always meant to be. He
thought about the time that they had left. He thought about what would happen
when there were no more dates left and one of them stopped coming back to the
other. Bonnie had faith that there was always a loophole. Always a way to cheat
death. That dates would appear and appear until they went together. Because of
what she was. Because of who she was.
But because of what he was and who he was, Tyler wasn’t so sure.
Bonnie sat peacefully humming to herself in what was to be her son’s nursery. There were still a few things that needed to be added but they had everything they needed set up if she went into labor early.
She was in awe of everything, she never thought she could be this happy–life had never been that kind to her–but here she was happily married and getting ready to welcome her first child into the world and the best part about it was that there wasn’t danger looming over her head.
Although, despite her happiness, today did have a dark cloud–it was the five year anniversary of her best friend’s death. They tried everything they could, even sunk so low as to ask for Kai’s help but he wouldn’t budge no matter what they offered him. They realized the only thing they could do was make sure she was comfortable when she died and say their final goodbyes. A tear fell from her eye thinking back on that day.
She rubbed her stomach reminding herself of all the happiness she’s had since then. After enduring tragedy after tragedy it seemed it was finally her time to be happy–for real this time.
That’s how Tyler found her, sitting in a rocking chair tearfully smiling down at their baby.
“Hey, you,” he whispered trying not to ruin the moment.
“Hey, how was the store?”
“A complete nightmare, you’re lucky you stayed home, your back would have been killing you.”
“What’s new,” she said snorting.
“I thought you were resting?”
“I tried, but I couldn’t stop thinking about everything so I came in here to calm me down.”
He walked over to his wife and kneeled in front of her. Taking her face in his hands he said, “Everything is going to alright. Nothing is after us and nothing is after our baby. Everything is great and nothing is going to ruin that.”
“I know. It’s just so hard to believe.”
“Well believe it baby because it’s true. We are well on our way to being the average American family, 2.5 kids and all.”
“Nothing will ever be average about us.”
“I suppose the witch and werewolf thing get in the way of that, but it won’t stop us from being happy, and I am very very happy.”
“Me too,” she said filled with joy.
He leaned into her and kissed her softly. “I’m glad to hear that.”

An AU where Tyler is a werewolf and heals in the trunk of his car. Or better yet an AU where Tyler doesn’t even show up to stop Damon because why would he give a flying fuck about Damon Salvatore, a man who killed both his father and his uncle, and lives the rest of his life away from Mystic Falls as planned until he runs into Bonnie while out on one of her travels.
They can’t get each other out of their heads and instead of fight the familiarity they act on it and fall in love and eventually get married and have a baby continuing their family lines that were completely dismantled in canon.
I swear to you I won’t stop until your legs are shaking and the neighbors know my name.”
The full moon was a charged time for both werewolf and witches alike. For witches it was a time to seek the truth and for werewolves it was the time when their true selves would be revealed.
Neither Bonnie nor Tyler saw the connection until the blood moon they crossed paths.
