Kai starts, taking careful steps toward her. He easily eats the magic out of
the wards, and licks his lips in delight as he sidles closer. She eyes him
like a cornered animal, a part of her ready to let the thing inside her out to
relieve the world of his existence if he so much as makes a wrong move.
He crouches before her, cool eyes locking with her feverish ones, “I hear you are in dire need of a siphon?”

FBI special agents Malachai “Kai” Parker and Bonnie Bennett are assigned to investigate X-Files: marginalized, unsolved cases involving paranormal phenomena. Parker believes in the existence of aliens and the paranormal, turning to those to explain his twin sister Josephine’s disappearance when he was a teenager. Bennett, a medical doctor and a skeptic, is assigned to make scientific analyses of Parker’s discoveries to debunk his work and thus return him to mainstream cases. Both agents become pawns in a larger conflict and come to trust only each other. Kai and Bonnie also discover the government’s agenda to keep the existence of extraterrestrial life a secret.
