She was only around him for three years, of course she loved him, he was literally the only person within her radius. She was SECLUDED and thought that DECLARATION was PROTECTION, when it was really just ISOLATION which made her BELIEVE HE WAS ALL SHE HAD.
BONNIE IS A WEAKER VERSION OF HERSELF WITH ENZO! Which is sad for a strong WOC character, in a show like this. Young Women look at this and think it’s okay.
After seeing this post today, I just had to point out a fun fact that may bring a chuckle to some of the hard core Bamon supporters. If you go to the comment sections of the recap articles, and not the fan based sites, you will come across some of the Bonnie Bennett supporters, who have choosen to settle for Benzo, actually admitting that Bonnnie’s agency has been dismantled to accommodate this relationship and the writers inability to write a decent sl for an unimportant character, which they are still struggling to write for; some have noted that Bonnie needs to stop this “boohoo I don’t know how to survive without my man” speech in almost every episode; that she needs to spend more time with herself and friends and not be underneath Enzo 24/7; and my favorite “she’s becoming like Elena”, hence Elena 2.0. In a subtle way, it also shows some of the similarities between the Benzo relationship and the Delena relationship, which everyone knows that JP only knows how to write for, and since she only has half of that ship left, she had to move on to the next closest thing, BE as the new DE 2.0. Now take a step back and look at the bigger picture, and you’ll see that this “love” is the perfect solution for one of JP’s dilemma which is keeping the fanatic DE viewers watching…answer: place Bonnie in this “epic” love that would keep her and Damon apart whether it’s from a friendship or a relationship…and the other dilemma which is how to lure the Bonnie supporters back…how: by offering her an “epic” love because her supporters “WANT to see her as being happy with ANY man she is settled with and we, as the “contented supporters”, are willing to disregard the lack of investment and under development of this relationship because Bonnie is happy…“. In a way, JP has managed to find a different way to fan bait and service without being obvious. The same MO but just wrapped in a different package.
@99babs that’s exactly what’s happening and i don’t settle for it. I won’t “settle” for Bonnie, and i realize that some people settle for the Bonnie/Enzo relationship and it makes me feel sad for Bonnie as a Character, that Julie managed to fanbait so heavily, to a point she outsmarted some Bonnie fans into believing Enzo was a good choice and this love really is epic when in fact they had to WATER DOWN BONNIE BENNETT to give her this man, all to KEEP BAMON from happening.
They had to throw in a ton of cheesy poetic one liners about the sailing ships and sirens, the guitar lessons to romanticize it as if were stupid. When in my opinion, a real fan of Bonnie would notice right away the second rate love story and romantic development they even tried to give Bonnie and Enzo.
I, think people wanted to give Enzo a try initially. But Tvd writers didn’t even struggle with developing The ship. They really thought they’d give them two episodes of flirting and meaningless kissing at the end of season seven, to pacify it. Yet… they still focused all of Bonenzo ship on the Bamon connection. Ugh. I just can’t with Tvd writers. I get frustrated with BE fans for accepting it. They should want more for Bonnie, BETTER FOR BONNIE.
In all honesty I think the BE fans are also DE fans, why would fans of Bonnie Bennet be ok with this messed up relationship tht was just thrown at us out of pure laziness and to get us off of bamon, because these are not real fans tht accept this they are DE fans who now all of a sudden love Bonnie because she has a “true love” and now she’s taken and Damon is now fully Elena’s, like really thts how these crazy DErs think. It’s a bunch of bullshit and Plec GOD Plec do u know how to write a relationship tht is about love, respect and trust? Or nah? Clearly she doesn’t and clearly her relationships are only valued by the nut job fandom she created. Bamon has so much potential and has been wasted away so Plec can promote unhealthy relationships to an impressionable audience. Well done Julie Plague.
You are so on point regarding the larger portion of BE being the fanatic DErs but I also think that the Bonnie fans can be divided into two categories. Category 1 being the diehard Bonnie followers since season 1. Majority of that fandom was Bamon but by the time the Originals came on board, Bonnie had grown into a variety of additional fandoms (i.e., Klaus, Kol, etc.). By the 5th season, Bonnie’s fans really started to become vocal in regards to her treatment. They were the ones who started the campaign demanding better treatment and stronger storylines for Bonnie/Kat Graham. They were the first to point out the flaws and mistreatment of the how Bonnie was portrayed and viewed as a female character (i.e., not being invited to parties, or being called and/or acknowledged as beautiful), her love life was practically nonexistent (the guys were either using he or were killed off immediately, and then she was later attached to a younger boy who was practically a surrogate brother, which was truly a weak love story), and how she would only show up when her friends needed saving or if they needed “someone” willing to die to protect them (didn’t help that all the sacrifices that she made was for her white friends). Because of this mistreatment the hard core Bonnie fans had to constantly defend and explain her true importance to not only the writers but also to those aggressive, immature and lack of grip on realty fanatics that lost their damn minds when two of the actors started to date (which was exploited by JP and the CW). Once the show was turned over to JP & CD, the treatment got worse and that’s when the Bonnie fans became more vocal and used the social media to help champion their cause. Because of their hard work and effort, this opened the door for the Category 2 Bonnie fans that began to gravitate to her because JP did try to make some kind of an effort, even though the ideas came from Bonnie’s fans, to explore and use Kat Graham’s acting ability to its fullest. Which actually captured the attention of the other TVD fans who were getting tired of the recycled storylines and the dismantling of the female characters to prop up their men up, especially Elena. You can see this disappointment by the increase of Katherine as a fan favorite and the decrease in Elena by the middle of season 6. These new supporters that wanted Bonnie happy, was probably there from the beginning but they probably were not following her from the get go. Once it was established what a wonderful character Bonnie was and were in full agreement that she deserved to be happy, they were willing to settle for anyone that JP gave her. I believe they were so busy focusing on the mistreatment of Bonnie that they didn’t want to see (or just plain forgot) that she had actually developed/grown in her own way because of it. Even though Bonnie fans didn’t agree with JP’s pathetic logic that Bonnie is a “strong character and her strength is being challenged” bs, a Category 1 fan had come to terms that the first 6 seasons had to happen in order to help shape Bonnie into who she was, before JP got her clause into her character. Hard to admit it but she had to go through those challenges to turn out better than her friends. The fans who choose not to settle for this Benzo relationship believes and knows that Bonnie deserved a love story that was well thought out, built and developed correctly. Its hard for me to see the fans from Category 1 actually settling for this half invested ship which has slowly “tweaked” her agency to keep the DErs, who have embraced BE cause it’s the closest thing to Delena, watching and appease those Bonnie fans who “want to see her happy”. In a round about way, if they choose to settle for this nonsense, then in the words of Marie Antoinette “let them eat cake”…

Also when Enzo kidnapped and threatened Bonnie and Jeremy. When Enzo kidnapped and stowed her away in a cabin AGAINST her will. Giving her those pills from the Armoury – pills that he didn’t even know what they were and it was killing her slowly and painfully plus it resulted in losing her magic. Like come on people…also I would count that whole cabin nonsense of 3 years as a form of mental/emotional abuse since she was in total isolation aside from being with her captor. That’s fucked up no matter how you look at it.
Wow I did not know that. You’re right Charskiis why isn’t anyone complaining about the THREE years of mental/emotional/physical abuse Enzo was putting Bonnie through. Yet complain about Kai, who put her through like what a week or less of it.
What Kai did was wrong obviously, but why is he the only one they complain about?
What makes Enzo kidnapping Bonnie so much worse to me is how methodical it was. It’s established basically up until that point Enzo had no feelings for Bonnie and vice versa prior to him kidnapping her which made it so random. However the one feeling he did have was jealousy that Damon had incited so much loyalty in Bonnie. How did Damon get her loyalty? He was isolated with her and only her for four months. Now add that up with Enzo kidnapping Bonnie and keeping her in a cabin isolated from any civilization for years (still not quite sure how long until she checked into the mental hospital) with only him as her company (which was not true for him).
That was a very very familiar situation for her that he was 100% aware of. He basically played on one if her greatest vulnerabilities, loneliness, and used it to his advantage and it worked. Their relationship plays basically what I can only describe as Stockholm Syndrome which makes so much sense when you add all the facts together.
Although on the bright side all of this proves that if Bonnie had spent enough time with Kai isolated in the prison world she definitely could/would have fallen for him and definitely forgiven him.

Aww and they really <i>really</i> tried to make that work because that sack of randomness was the best storyline Enzo ever got and the best romantic subplot Bonnie ever had too. That woman really needs to get fired from her job or at least learn how to do it. I feel bad for people who stuck around for TO because I bet this same kind of shit is going to be happening.
