DE fans: We acknowledge Damon’s bad behavior.

DE fans about Caroline (and every woman he’s with): It’s not his fault! She wanted to sleep with him initially.

DE fans about 2×01: It’s not his fault! Katherine and Elena broke his heart. And what‘s it matter? Jeremy didn’t really die.

DE fans about him trying to kill Elena’s friends: It‘s not his fault! It was before he really knew Elena.

DE fans about his continued abuse of Elena and her friends (after he knows her): It’s not his fault! He just loves Elena so much but doesn‘t feel worthy of love

DE fans about him lying about the cure: It’s not his fault! He doesn’t want to lose her.

DE fans about Defan: It’s not his fault! Stefan’s the one that made him a vampire.

My list is actually much longer than this, but I didn’t want to go on forever. But my point is this: Stop kidding yourselves, DE fans! The last thing you EVER do is acknowledge Damon‘s awful behavior.

I don’t think we’re supposed to hate the TVD trio, i’m pretty sure the writers assumed that the audience view Bonnie and Abby the same way that they do. As plot devices whose only value depends how the trio can use them instead of as actual people.

leianaberrie:

I agree. Plus, Julie simply isn’t clever enough for the subversive writing that is needed to portray the “heroes” of her story as truly hypocritical.

I’ve said it before but I was perfectly fine with any one or all of the main trio dying for the shit they pull that get people killed and the lack of remorse that comes with it, hell I’d even add Caroline to that list for the shit she pulled in 4×06. To me they felt like the characters that brought the show down, hindering so much of the plot with their useless drama that brought everyone else down too, so ending in their death felt right while everyone else thrives because they finally got away from them (until they just basically had Stefan die for Delena that shit nobody needed nor wanted).

My Judgemental Opinion: You are not a Bonnie fan if you didn’t like her until season 6.

And I mean it because this usually means you didn’t like her until she stopped being mean to your problematic fave: Damon Salvatore.

I roll my eyes everytime I read I didn’t start liking her until season 6 because Damon’s validation should not be a factor if you were a true fan of hers. While I get that there are other reasons (like that being the season she’s treated less like a plot device), but this is the most common one I see. No one had any real stake in whether she died or not until she became important to Damon and that’s not being a Bonnie fan, that’s being a Damon fan.

1×01 // 4×04

Thank fuck someone did this. Damon’s line here has haunted me ever since I saw that episode. It just sits with me some times. It’s sick.

The disgusting thing about D*lena is that its not even like the writers made an effort to make it look like Damon had changed with he was still his same creepy rapey self and Elena just rolled with it and told Caroline to talk to the hand whenever she brought it up. The worst line for me was when Damon was like, “Have fun with Miss Mystic fall I know I did” and Elena smiles like its a joke, your not telling me that Caroline didn’t tell Elena that Damon took advantage of her, its not like she didn’t know. So either Elena gives no fucks about Caroline and what Damon did or the writers are trying to negate continuity either way I’m disgusted.

I stumbled across this old post and I just to reblog it because I just realised what a deliberate parallel this. The girl Damon and Elena are stalking looks exactly like Caroline in season2 right down to the curly hair and the bangs and the outfit.

As if this couldn’t get any more gross…

I think it’s definitely a deliberate parallel. It’s completely consistent with early S1, though? To take just one example–this is from 1×09 when Caroline says she wants the necklace back that she gave Bonnie:

image

Elena learned Damon was compelling Caroline and erasing her memory in 1×06, she knew Damon was feeding from Caroline and saw the bite marks in 1×04. I think she enjoyed the situation because it made her feel superior to Caroline in comparison (hence her heart-eyes at Damon when he says, “I wanted it to be real with you” in 1×13, i.e. “I think you’re special enough to not-rape.”) There’s the scene in 1×21 where she laughs with Damon over him raping Caroline, and as early as 1×05 she clearly despised Caroline for looking “too cheerful” after being abused and traumatized in 1×04 (which Elena saw.)

This is why I disagreed with people saying Elena was OOC in 4×08 when she said, “He’s always been there for ME when *I* needed him” and “So what exactly was it about him that made you jump into bed with him as soon as you met him?” to Caroline, or that she said it because of the sire bond, it was 100% consistent with her attitude from early S1 (though the sire bond might’ve made Elena less cautious in speaking her mind directly instead of being more careful about what she said in front of whom.)

Whenever this gets brought up, people say it’s breaking continuity because Elena made a big deal of getting angry at Damon and comforting Caroline in 1×04, and says, “He was hurting her!” to Stefan in 1×06, but I think it’s the combination of these reactions and her true attitude to Caroline plus her actions (where she doesn’t move to get anyone around her on vervain until 1×12) that gets at the essence of who Elena is as a person.

It’s the most natural thing in the world that writers with misogynistic attitudes will produce protagonists who embody those attitudes. It’s just that for various reasons it took TVD fandom a really, really, really long time to see it with its female protagonists, especially Elena. It was always there, though.

“I’ve been in hell long enough to know that there is no such thing as redemption. There are only promises and bargains and tricks we play on ourselves to make us believe that we’re good people. I’m not a good person.
I own that. And if I’m going down, I’m going out with a bang.”

After wasting an entire episode of Kai with Damon, I was so glad this is how it ended. Such a great “you thought…” moment.

How many D/E blogs do I have to whoosh away and block before tumblr gets the hint? I do not like D/E nor care about it because I do not care about Elena’s love life. I don’t even get recommend as many B/E blogs (a ship I also hate) and that involves Bonnie, someone who’s love life I do care about and frequently post about. Get your shit together tumblr.
