I’d love a spin off of Katherine and Emily’s time together. Katherine didn’t treat her like she was beneath her which is weird since y’all know how times were back then. I’m not sure even Kat would’ve been invited to the Salvamatores. She looks Puerto Rican. lol
Did we watch the same show? Emily was literally her slave. Made her do things because Emily “owed” her. I don’t care how you spin it, that’s not equal, that’s just the “happy slave” trope where “slavery is not that bad, look how happy they are.” Take off whatever white tinted glasses you have because trust me Katherine treated her like she was beneath her that’s why the last thing she did before fleeing was turn her in as a witch and got her burned at the stake. Emily defied her orders and Katherine felt she was owed retribution for that–it doesn’t get anymore beneath her than that.
me, an intellectual: julie plec has failed to grasp basic concepts such as diversity, characterisation bc instead of developing a character she retcons them to the point that they’re unrecognisable, she allows misogynistic and rather racist material to be included, the way she treats certain cast members *cough* kat *cough*, she panders to specific fans but disrespects most of them, she pretty much ruined the show by focusing more so on romantic relationships than on familiar and platonic ones.
Alright, but who at any point thought Plec was creative let alone a creative genius.
Seriously though, when did Damon and Ian become the bloody lead of the show?! Why did season 7 revolve around him? Why did Nina get reduced to a love interest in her own final season? Why are they doing season one flashbacks from Damon’s point of view almost as if to make it about Delena and disrespect Stelena and Kevin even more when Stefan is the narrator?! And if all this is true and Damon is the main character why aren’t you actually making him likeable?
Yeah, I don’t get what the fuck happened to this show either. If you’re gonna make a show revolved around a character that has done nothing but terrible things, why the fuck do they constantly make him worse? It’s ridiculous!
Oh and if Nina is coming back… I would give anything to see Ian’s reaction, after all the shit he’s pulled…
Oh, right. Plec happened..
Seriously though, when did Damon and Ian become the bloody lead of the show?! Why did season 7 revolve around him?
Around the time when they realized their ratings were tanking and needed to capitalized on Damon’s “hotness” for views. Of course they didn’t really realize that alienating their audience with so much Damon and Delena was what was causing the drop in ratings.
Why did Nina get reduced to a love interest in her own final season?
That actually happens around season 3 when the most interesting thing that sustains her in the plot expires–doppelganger–and all she’s left with is love triangle. Elena was always best as a supporting character because there’s not really much to her beyond self-insert. It’s fine for a while but the more and more passive she is the less and less relatable she becomes which is why self-inserts have an expiration date. I actually found season 6 to be one of her better seasons with her in the background due to this because one of the main crutches of the show was that there are so many other interesting things happening, but they’re all in the background and you’re stuck with Elena until you can get to it (this was also true of the books).
Why are they doing season one flashbacks from Damon’s point of view almost as if to make it about Delena and disrespect Stelena and Kevin even more when Stefan is the narrator?!
Because, as pointed out, Julie Plec. Season 5 is where I believe they should have cut their losses with Damon and Delena, this is the point in which we as an audience realized he and that relationship were going absolutely nowhere development wise. People obviously realized it before then but season 5 is where it reached it’s peak and not even the casual viewer (which is the majority of the people who watch the show) could ignore how awful it was, but Julie Plec was really adamant about backing that horse. I suspect it’s because they’re the only part of the fandom that gave her any validation as a writer because as you pointed out with the disrespect of Stelena, she’s insecure–especially when it comes to Delena. There’s a reason why when Damon does something remotely likable Elena is unnecessarily brought in to the situation even though she’s in a box. That Bamon “I love you” was a perfectly good moment and because of Kat and Ian’s chemistry it trumps any Delena moment in feels which is why again she’s unnecessarily brought in. Hell that’s pretty much what happens from season 3-8, when Elena is forgotten about to long she’s brought into lots and storylines (usually Bonnie’s) to remind us she’s still there and it’s because that’s how flimsily her sustainability in the plot is. While I do think there is some cause for this insecurity, forcing it just makes it way worse.
And if all this is true and Damon is the main character why aren’t you actually making him likeable?
You can’t fix a problem you don’t see. Plec has made it abundantly clear that she thinks Damon is perfect in her eyes. She denies him raping Caroline or Andy, something the actor even admits Damon did, because in whatever fucked up part of her brain she can’t see it. She can’t see anything, she writes the show from a fangirl perspective, and due to such things suck. Things are glossed over, canon is forgotten because it’s just written under the statement of “this is what I want to happen” with little regard to continuity.
So why does the show suck? Julie Plec, and I’d like to give credit to other writers for the shittiness they’ve written as well, but she’s the show runner, everything runs by her. If she didn’t want it it wouldn’t have been on the show.
I can mostly because the outrage about it mostly came from our reservations about Plec and the fact that we’ve done this song and dance before on multiple occasions and the fact that Kai was untouchable in that department.
Take the context of Plec out of his tweets and he actually sounds like a Bonkai fan who wanted to be Bonkai’s child. However at the same time this fake Twitter kid on some degree had to have seen our outrage and decided to go with it more–pour more fuel on the fire. Asshole move that got him exactly what he wanted: attention.
Us ignoring what he did isn’t really letting him get away with anything, it’s his punishment. We’re taking away what he desired when he pulled that shit. His 15 minutes of fame are up and if all goes as planned by the end of the month no one will remember him especially if he tries shit like this again.
Truee he was just annoying troll that wanted people to notice him
The sad thing is he had people believe his story I didn’t because I thought that It was fake from the get go because one kai is still a virgin and two the only one he wants to have it Ieft him in a prison world
You see that’s using logic and reason because you know the character, something Plec has proved time and time again not to know plus she’s not k own for logic and reason. It was believable because shit like that had happened in the past and we knew very well it could happen again, still could happen.
Like I said, take Plec out of the context and it all sounds completely ridiculous and unbelievable, but with her, it’s damn well plausible and this troll stuck hold with that either by complete ignorance or on purpose.
So the Jalapeno Parker thing turned out to be fake but I just realized with the way that kid was hinting with “the audience knows [insert parent]” that he probably actually meant Bonnie and we all freaked out because with Plec involved we knew that couldn’t be.
She’s created such a distrust in this fandom she really needs to be cancelled, as does this show. As @shadowcatgirl09 pointed out, Plec has a bad history of doing shit like this, with Damon, Tyler, Klaus, Kol, so we didn’t even entertain the idea that Bonnie could be the mother and not because he’s white–we just knew Plec and her bullshit.
Low key, if Dinah and Jacques were Bonkai twins separated like in Northern Lights by @albion19, I’d be excited. However, even if they were it’s still something written by Plec so…
I was hoping they were heretics or something
I don’t know if the Bennett will be in it since she disappeared from the IMBD roster, but unfortunately Jacques definitely the kid of someone we know. The running theory is Kai but it could be Liv, she was gone for a hot minute and if TO taught us anything, Plec doesn’t know how long a pregnancy is supposed to last. That’s honestly my only hope at this point but we all know Plec would have the audacity to make Kai have a random love child with someone who was not Bonnie.
All I can think of is some random love child Kai had before he died but even that makes no sense. All I know is I’m not here for this no matter who’s kid it is.

follow up post; if they did bring kai back in legacies and i caved and watched it like a dumb thirsty bitch (even knowing i’ll be miserable because they’ll probably act like my all time OTP never happened) would the bonkaimily like cast me out, lmao
I wouldn’t cast you out, but I would judge you heavily, lol.
Anyway one thing to note, and the reason why if Kai was on Legacies I’d be able ignore it, is that Kai there wouldn’t be the real Kai. I doubt the main writers for Kai in the beginning would be crossing over to the spin-off and Even if they were I doubt they’d be writing for him. That job would go to Plec who is writes him OOC. It’s what happened in 6×22, it’s what happen in his return in season 8 because once you get passed the excitement of him being out he is not himself. Outside of the 30 seconds of him asking for Bonnie and the 5 seconds when he first sees Bonnie, he’s pretty OOC. They have him caring about things that he really has never had any interest in nor any motivation to have interest in like Damon, Elena, Caroline, Stefan, the twins, and the nail in the coffin for me, Katherine. Why would he give two shits about losing a bet to Katherine with the predicament he was in that he couldn’t get out of? Furthermore, why would he give a shit about it if it had nothing to do with Bonnie? It’s like the sleeping beauty plot all over again–why was Bonnie an afterthought in his revenge plot?
I’m not tuning into any version of Kai outside TVD because I know it’s not going to be Kai. Chris can bring all the charisma and charm to the character back, but it’s not going to compensate for Plec’s shitty writing. There was only so much he could do to salvage it, but she’s that bad at her job.
