I agree with everything you said. Because Bonnie was a character that sacrificed everything for her white counterparts they have this weird thing that Kat, a black woman cannot be the successful one now tvd has ended because they’ve been accustomed to her getting the short end of the stick. I’ve seen Nina fans go to great lengths to make out as if Kat and Bonnie are nothing compared to Nina. It’s safe to say Candice is either done with acting or will stay on JP shows. 1/2

Ian is funny because he hates his ship but still attends cons to hear teenaged girls scream his name, but his fans think he can do no wrong. Paul fans come across as self righteous at times. They love to label Kat as problematic whereas Paul has mentioned his love for woody Allen multiple times. Which is another thing. Obviously I’m generalising because I don’t know all of them but one thing that’s apparent is that they cannot leave Bonnie/Kat alone, she’s always seen as a threat 2/2

And the funny part about it is that they only see Kat as the threat. I don’t see any of this hate when it comes to the other actors and when there is there’s always someone there to jump to their defense so they never even have to acknowledge it. Kat, much like Bonnie, has always had to fight her own battles, and that’s not to say she doesn’t have people coming to her defense, but the fandom gets real real quiet when something bad is said about her (or Bonnie for that matter).

To them she was never even supposed to be cast as Bonnie because of the color of her skin in the first place, so the fact that she’s having any success after that just kills them.

Who do you think had the shittiest fans in the tvd fandom? Or just annoying. Because when I tell you nian shippers can not let go of the past….

So I honestly didn’t pay attention that much to the actors irl and their fans but from what I’ve seen and experienced Nina’s fans seemed like the worst simply because of them all I’ve seen the most Nina fans drag down Kat and other actors from the show to simply make her seem better and I noticed the same thing from Elena fans. Like they’ve gone out of their way to do this and all they’ve proven is that Nina really needs people to prop her up, at least with the amount of harassment needed for people to “truly appreciate her”.

Ian’s fans have a school girl quality to them that just mostly makes them cringey which the same can be said for Damon fans. The amount of mental hoops I’ve seen them make to woobiefy Damon, and blame Caroline for what Damon did to her, they are the worst just on morality’s sake but the amount of just plane Damon fans I’ve seen isn’t that much they just mostly blur into Delena fans who honestly get their own category. Of them all they’re obviously the worst and from what I’ve seen have the lowest IQ.

Stefan fans, because I don’t really know much about Paul’s, while nowhere near the worst have a self righteousness to them which has always stopped me from completely liking Stefan because while I agree he’s the better brother, he isn’t better in general. Without the contrast of Damon, Stefan wouldn’t fair all that well.

Caroline fans (again not that familiar with Candice’s fans) weirdly make it up there with you Damon/Delena/Elena fans. I remember once I was in the anti-Bonnie tag researching the unfounded hate she gets and found that the majority of the posts there were from Caroline fans. I thought this was peculiar until I remembered that the first faction of the TVD fandom to hate on Bonnie was Caroline fans who felt Bonnie owed Caroline after she was turned. In later years the complaints didn’t stop, they even went as far as to call Bonnie a Mary Sue. I thought Damon fans were DElusional but to convince yourself that the magic negro of the show is a Mary Sie when Elena is right there, hell Caroline is right there, I’d almost have to give them the award for “most dense” if an entire faction of the fandom didn’t ignore sexual assault (Delena).

But I do have to give up to Nian fans. Reminds me of season 5 Delena. You keep shouting at them CUT YOUR LOSSES, THIS DOES NOT WORK, but damn they are adamant about that OTP at the detriment of the characters, and the actors. They both moved on to better things and so should there fans because there are so many better things they could do with their time than harrass people about a relationship that ended over half a decade ago.

However none will ever be as delusional, racist, sexist, you name it as Julie Plec fans because it’s her writing and the way she wrote her shows incited most of this. People can easily deny what Damon did to Caroline because Plec does. People feel perfectly fine saying racist things about Bonnie because that’s how the show presents her and every character of color. People feel fine about valuing the female characters only by who they’re dating because that’s all they’re valued as on the show. So people stanning Plec, claiming sexism as the reason for the flack she gets, and giving the pieces of shit I can’t even call mediocrity because that would be giving her too much credit attention–one can not get worse than that.

Anyway from my limited scope which is mostly from the perspective of a Bonnie fan who doesn’t really care about anything outside of her, this is what I’ve observed so I say decide for yourself who the worst fans.

Tvd fans see Kat as the least deserving of praise because Bonnie was originally white therefore she would show way more gratitude for being allowed on the show because she’s black. But she got the job because she was the best actress there. Kat even said that there were girls of all races at the auditions but SHE got the job. However the same energy is not given to Nina even though elena in the books had blonde hair and blue eyes neither of which Nina possesses

Candice has neither Auburn hair or green eyes. Jeremy’s a character that simply doesn’t exist neither does Jenna, they’replace holders for Judith and Margaret. Matt’s last name isn’t Donavon, and Vicki isn’t his sister. And yet with all of these cosmetic differences none were made as big of a deal as the fact that Bonnie isn’t Black in the book. It’s really telling what people decide to focus on.

Paul flip flops with the ships he’s involved in yet he’s never called out for it but he always shown his distain for the show. Like you said Nina never acknowledges tvd unless she has a new project out and even then it’s something as simple as liking or posting a throwback and she’s such a queen for it. Not to mention she’s thrown shade and had a part to play in the hate Kat gets from her fans but does nothing to stop it. But god forbid Kat asks people to stop tagging her in pics

Exactly. Kat is actually very interactive with her fans which made that we miss you comment that got everyone freaking out (not that they weren’t before) all the more ridiculous. Kat’s fan know exactly where to find her–in the past two years she’s been in a lot of projects and still more to come and even when she isn’t she’s not hard to find because she’s one of the most interactive cast members with her fan base. But in the end she’s still the one who catches most flack and the worst kind because Nina, Paul, or Ian have to deal with what Kat does just simply due to her skin color, the worst they have to deal with is people badgering them about a show they no longer car about. Nina may get some sexist comments but I have yet to see her get any hate that’s anywhere near as bad as the shit they’ve said to Kat.

Do you think any of her “friends” actually cared about Bonnie? I saw mentioned that Kai is the only one who made effort to apologize to her. From what I recall, the Mystic Falls gang treated her like a magical fix it and nothing more. Nobody ever really rallied for her like they would for Elena or Caroline in danger. Their group wouldn’t survive five minutes of Bonnie up and left town to start her own life

I think they thought they actually cared about her, but never actually did because when you do you don’t ignore their pain and suffering like that. I think their heads were so far up their own ass, and that they were so used to Bonnie solving it for them that their privilege didn’t allow them to think about her side of things. They only had half-ass comment here and there about her well being but none of that matters unless they actually do anything. Bonnie did things, she was a loyal and good best friend which is funny because you never really hear about that from the characters on the show, but they’ll go on and on about what a good person Elena is despite her never showing those traits, what a great person Caroline is despite her compliance and ability to bend her morals for her friends. Bonnie gets none of that she just gets called judgemental which is a criticism that honesty fits Caroline more but I never see her called, I consistently only see this in reference to black women.

Basically racism was so ingrained in the show and, subsequently, the characters that their version of caring is pretty much the equivalent of a child’s love for their black nanny in every “happy slave” piece of media. They care about her, but only in reference to what they can do for them but TVD’s worse because a child is actually ignorant and can learn, the MFG can’t and as shown by the end of the series, never can learn better.

So like…. was anybody in the musty folds gang working on freeing Bonnie from the Prison World? Or were they too wrapped up in their own drama? Did anybody speak up and go “we gotta do something” or was there someone white being prioritized? These are the same people who didn’t notice she was dead so

Well there was Damon, and that was literally it which explains why they spectacularly terrible at it because he’s easily distracted by Elena.

Although that does bring up another weird note–when Bonnie is dying or dead it’s always up to Damon to save her first in S2, second in S5, then in seasons 6-8. While that would put a point in Bamon’s favor I think the fact that they keep putting the most unreliable character who gets so easily distracted by Elena speaks more about how much the writers value Bonnie.

Pretty much in every situation they have to make it known that she isn’t valued over Elena and the coffin spell pretty much seals that to the point that denial or ignorance can no longer be used as an excuse on Plec’s part. She feels threatened by Bonnie Bennett’s ability to outshine her main (white) character so she has to spend extra time finding ways to devalue her.

Qetsiyah’s calcified blood in the tombstone was equivalent in power to a celestial body or event. But sure, Esther is the most powerful witch around 🙄

The weird thing about this is that Plec did this to herself. If she wanted Esther, Hope, Freya, Dahlia, white witch, etc. to be the most powerful witches in the universe she should have done exactly that. Instead she chose the negation route which isn’t surprising since they’ve been doing that since S1–handmaiden my ass.

I’m only on 2×16 😭😭😭 I thought I was farther. Why am I enduring this show why don’t I quit while I’m ahead

So, the episode is off to a great start with the very tedious “is it Katherine or Elena?” scene that’s taking more time than I felt like watching because by this point it’s gotten old. I will note that Damon was better at spotting which was the real Katherine which while most would say is a point in Delena’s favor, I think speaks more to the fact that Katherine fucks with Damon the most, and while he is really dumb a lot he is finally catching on and by the end of the episode he’s definitely caught on.

With Elijah’s compulsion on Katherine being erased, this episode made me think about Stefan in season 8 and the whole compulsion erasing when they turned human and all of the discourse around it and a) it actually makes sense given that compulsion goes away when they die and the cure “kills” them for a bit before bringing them back, b) they should have done this with Katherine, it would have been epic, and c) I’m tired of this “Stefan is the only one to face consequences” mentality because unlike some characters (i.e Bonnie and Tyler) he’s facing the consequences of HIS OWN ACTIONS. The issue isn’t that Stefan should have the same consequences as Damon (i.e none), but rather Damon and everyone should have to face THEIR OWN CONSEQUENCES. This is what’s always annoyed me about this fandom, Damon’s free pass doesn’t equate everyone’s free pass, but rather Damon’s free pass equates TAKING AWAY HIS FREE PASS along with everyone else’s because there needs to be consequences to everyone’s actions and they shouldn’t be paid for by the POC’s of the show.

It’s only the first 2 minutes of the episode and I’m already so annoyed with everyone especially the world’s most boring protagonist, Elena Gilbert. Yes sweetie, telling Katherine to leave worked the first time so it’ll definitely work this *insert sarcasm*. God, she’s a whiny bitch. Now I’m not really going to condemn her for wanting Katherine gone, if I were her I would want her gone too, what’s pissing me off is the level of entitlement she has ordering Stefan or Damon to get rid of her and the whiny voice isn’t helping. If you want her gone you should probably do more than whine about it. But of course she Elena, so what can she do about it other than whine which makes the “I can take care of myself” mentality she had this season all the more annoying because she can’t–she can do absolutely fuck all so where is this confidence coming from. I honestly thnk sometimes she suffers from delusions of grandeur.

And another annoying thng this episode and now I’m at leats 7 minutes in. Katherine’s around so we must get Bonnie’s powers asap to stop Katherine, not because they’re apart of her or her identity and she needs them for her 🙄. Although I was happy when she got her powers back, but didn’t tell anyone. Why didn’t it stay that way? She could have died 0 times had she done that, and I mean that because 2 episodes later is when she first dies for Elena.

Oh and then after that scene, secret Beremy, what a way to turn down the heat which wasn’t that high to begin with, but seriously, they have like no chemistry. And oh the cringe while Bonnie asks permission to date Jeremy. I sometimes think she hid it for so long because she felt the cringe from their relationship–giving herself an out.

I feel so so bad for the Martin family that they’re related to Greta, someone who not only left voluntarily but didn’t even bat an eyelash when her whole family was killed. It’s almost as bad as being related to Elena, at least Greta didn’t fuck the guy who murdered her family. “You can trust us,” the phrase that gets every outsider who helps them killed, brutally, and in the same episode. RIP Doctor and Luka Martin. Although I guess this episode is a bit of an exception since not trusting is what got them killed but that’s equally as bad in TVD land because if you’re against the MFG you obviously deserve to be killed, and Jeremy even states that in the episode.  “I know you feel bad but I don’t,” the main staple of The Vampire Diaries where killing someone has no meaning, and neither does their death, and if you care about their death you’re whiny and judgey (reference every phrase directed at Bonnie and even Tyler when someone gets killed because of them).

It was really weird when Elena was talking to Jenna about her relationship with Alaric. Why wasn’t she more alarmed that her adult boyfriend was talking to her teenage niece about their relationship problems. No red flags there??? Not a one???

So, Kat has a career singing, and has never once sang on the show. Candice has brief period of time singing professionally, as backup, and has sang twice, two more than anyone on a teenage vampire show should have. Also added with the fact that it’s always the cheesiest songs and her voice reminds me why she never made it that far past backup singer–this show amazes me with it’s logical leaps.

Finale note as I’m watching Elena’s last scene, Nina Dobrev isn’t that great of an actress, the only difference in the way she plays Katherine opposed to Elena is the hair. Otherwise she saunters the same, speaks the same, does everything else the same which would mean something if Katherine was pretending to be Elena, but most of this episode she isn’t. I also reminds me of season 5 when she was outraged that no one caught on to it not being Katherine. 1) Katherine has never had issue impersonating her believably, 2) Elena does a lot of the same shit Katherine does (especially that season) just under the guise of being the “nice” doppelganger so of course people let a lot of the shit she did while in her body slide–she was Elena after all, and 3) given how neglectful Elena had been since season 1 she wouldn’t have fared any better so I don’t understand that high horse she always be on–it ain’t cute.

Now off to 2×17 to figure out the logical leap from here to Bonnie sacrificing herself again for Elena after what happened with her Grams.

meritamen:

I knew tvd was shit when I realised that I loved all the villains and hated all the people that were considered “the good guys” (-my girl bon ofc).

For me it was season 3 and sitting through Alaric’s storyline. It wasn’t the focus that season nor was it the worst by a long shot (turning Bonnie’s mom and the focusing on Elena’s pain and then only having Elena apologized to comes to mind), but I was a very casual viewer and at the time my DVR malfunctioned a lot so I missed a lot if episodes for context, but the acting alone was enough to bring me completely out of the show and sit back and think “wow this is awful”.

And here’s the kicker, I stayed around for 1 and half seasons more before the show became completely unwatchable in season 5. I should have cut my losses then bit at least O got to see Kai.
