Hi! Your Bonkai Secret Santa gifter again. Thank you so much for answering my questions! Just a few more things: any preferences between all human/canon au/other mythical/supernatural (werewolf au, mermaid au, etc)/fusion (specifically HP AU)? Any favorite side pairings? Tropes (soulmates, fake dating, Only One Bed™️, etc)? I don’t write bonkai all that often, so I want to make sure that I get at least a base for what you like to work off of. 1) I have no particular preference but between those I guess canon AU where they meet earlier and under different circumstances.
2) I have absolutely no preference as far as tropes go.
3) As for side pairings, I’m not all that crazy for any ships that don’t involve Bonnie so not really any favs. However I have these lists if that’ll help you.

Hi, sorry I’m getting to this so late, but I was so tired yesterday and I wanted to make sure to answer this at a time you’d see it even though I don’t know what time zone you’re in.
1) I have no preference between fic or edit
2) I don’t know if I’d call it a pet peeve but I’m not big on fluff mostly because it does feel OOC a lot of the time and usually lacks stakes for me to care about, but also because the side I like explored most with Bonkai is the darker aspects of the ship.
3) I have no squicks when it comes to smut besides rape and incest. I can dubious consent but if it feels completely like rape I get uncomfortable.
4) Honestly whatever makes you feel more comfortable is fine with me. I’m not the type of person to care about surprises or spoilers so if it would make it easier for you to chose one then pitch me what ideas you have, but if you want to surprise me, surprise me.
Persephone!Bonnie knowing her ~friends~ will want to resurrect her so she can return to her role as town witch as Mystic Falls is crumbling around them in her absence. So she eats the pomegranate seeds from the sacred orchard with Kai watching. They both know what this means. Her return shall be inevitable, to her king and the kingdom he offered her.
So I was going to answer this with a drabble but it kind of turned into a oneshot. It’s an S4 series finale AU. Note, this has not been edited.
“I can bring Jeremy

“No, you can’t!”
“Elena needs him. This
was always the plan. Jeremy wasn’t supposed to die.”
“It was the will of
Nature. There’s no magic in this world that is strong enough to challenge it”
“I have every magic! I
have the spirits!” She started the spell. “Phasmatos revenios un Animum.”
“Stop it!”
“I have expression!”
“Stop it, Bonnie!”
“I have the darkness.”

Bonnie continued to chant with flames roaring all around
her. So focused she didn’t notice the ground beneath her opening. Before either
he or Grams could do anything about it she fell into a pit of darkness.
The flames disappeared and the only thing left in Bonnie’s
place was the dirty ground.
“Bonnie? Baby?” She’d been tortured in the spirit realm but
none of it compared to what she was feeling right now. Her granddaughter had
disappeared without a trace and she had no idea how to find her.
The fall was shorter than expected—granted she didn’t expect
much. She couldn’t help but compare herself to Alice in Wonderland when she
fell down the rabbit hole, but Alice was met with much more pleasant beings.
His name was Kai and she’d fallen into his realm. She’d
heard the stories as a kid, how he had committed the ultimate act of sin and
murdered his siblings. That the act was so atrocious that nature had created a
realm all for him, the only other beings to come through were the dead who
crossed over. Why she was there was a mystery until he admitted to taking her.
The first emotion she felt was fear. If he was the man she
had heard of she knew she didn’t stand a chance. The next emotion she felt was
anger. With all the magic she had in her veins she killed him. First by
impalement, then with fire and then variants of the two until she realized she
was wasting her time, he could never truly be killed, not here at least.
Soon anger turned into curiosity.
“Why did you take me?”
“Loneliness.”
“But why me? If you were lonely you could have taken
anyone.”
“Because I wanted you.”
“What makes me so special?”
“Maybe the question you should ask is what doesn’t? You,
Bonnie Bennett, are the most special
woman I’ve ever observed, I wasn’t letting that go to waste.”
Three Months Later
Mystic Falls was in complete chaos, Bonnie never closed the
veil. Every day was like living in A
Christmas Carol except the ghosts were a lot more pissed off and had a lot
of axes to grind. Seeing their dead loved ones weren’t
worth the carnage it had caused in its wake—they were there to collect and boy
was there a lot to collect. They needed Bonnie and they needed her ASAP.
They learned from Sheila that she had disappeared, may have
even been dead, but a hot tip from the Gemini coven had told them that she was
in their approximation of hell. The weakened veil had allowed Malachai to walk
on earth once more and he had coveted the last Bennett witch. They had no idea
what he wanted with her—there was no way for him to leave, nature had spoken—but they knew it wasn’t good. No one
from the living was supposed to be down there.
“I don’t know about you, but I don’t like the idea of my
best friend being stuck with some psychopathic killer. God, knows what he’s
doing to her down there,” Caroline chimed in. They had weekly meetings—outside
of Mystic Falls—about what to do about the veil.
“I don’t like it either care, but we have bigger things to
deal with right now,” Elena said.
“Which we need Bonnie
for.”
“Who we have no way getting to. We need a witch, plain and
simple.”
“Wow, why didn’t I think of that? It’s not like every witch we’ve come across wasn’t powerful enough
to do the spell.”
“Well, there has to be
one! Bonnie was an untrained witch there has to be at least one witch out there
who can do the spell.”
“And is willing to help us? Witches don’t like vampires,
Elena.”
“Well, Bonnie helped us.”
“Because she was our friend.”
“Alright, we’re getting nowhere arguing,” Stefan cut in.
“I’m all ears, Stefan.
What do you suggest we do?”
“Caroline’s right, we need Bonnie, but there might be a way
to get to her. If there’s a way to the Otherside there has to be a way to Hell.”
“I might know someone,” Damon said. He was unusually quiet lately
mostly because this veil problem affected him the most. It put him in a
permanent contemplative mood.
“Who?”
“Don’t worry about it.” He got up and left the room leaving
five very confused people behind.
“Bonnie, Bonnie, Bonnie, stubborn, stubborn Bonnie. Once
again I’ve prepared the perfect meal, and once again you refuse to eat. Do you
know how excited I was to finally cook for someone else? Just one bite—it’ll be
the most delicious thing you put in your mouth.”
“I’m sure it’s very
delicious, but I’ve heard the story. You and I both know what’ll happen if I
eat that. I want to go home, Kai.”
He groaned. “What’s with you and home—it’s not like there’s anything there for you.”
“My friends are there.”
“Are they? I’m sure they’re doing just fine without you.”
“And what would give you that impression?”
“Nothing really, they’re probably dead by now, but if the
only thing standing between them and death is you they were probably meant to
die.”
“How can you say that like it’s
not a big deal? Have you never cared for someone?”
“I care about you.”
“If you cared about me you’d let me leave.”
“But if you leave you’ll die.”
“Says who? Who says I’m going to die.”
“You’ve already died, and if I hadn’t grabbed you, you would
have died again. So, you see I can’t let you leave—you can’t defy Nature and
it’s coming for you.”
She got up from her seat at the immaculately decorated
table—he always tried to impress her—and walked over to his seat at the head of
the table. She took his face in her hands and smiled gently at him. He couldn’t
help but feel comforted by her—he was finally getting through to her. “You are
so, so sweet, but-” She paused. “Don’t tell me what to do.” Her tone was
anything but sweet.
“Ugh, when are you going to learn the difference between
someone helping you and someone trying you control you? Because I gotta tell
you, you’re shitty at it.”
“Excuse me. You don’t know anything about me.”
“Except I know everything about you. I’ve been watching you
for a very long time.”
“That’s not creepy at all.”
“If I could have I would have talked to you.”
“And I would have avoided you every time.”
“And I would have been proud of you for it.”
“You make no sense sometimes.”
“I like you. You’re fierce. Take no nonsense from anyone,
and you’re more powerful than you’ll ever know. I’ll admit, you don’t belong
her—you’re here because I’m a selfish bastard—but you also don’t belong there.
Damon knew exactly where to find her. She hadn’t left since
Bonnie’s disappearance. At first, she
just kept waiting for her to come back, but now—knowing where she actually
is—she still can’t leave. It’s the last place she saw her granddaughter.
“After being dead for a year this is how you’re spending
your time among the living.”
She sighed exhaustedly. “There’s only one person I want to
spend my time with—nothing else matters.”
“What do you say we get her back?”
“I say, what’s your angle? You and I both know you don’t
give a damn about my granddaughter.”
“I’ll admit, my feelings for Bonnie aren’t pleasant, but she doesn’t deserve t be
in hell.”
“And?”
“We need her.”
“I’m not helping you kill my baby.”
“Who said anything about killing her? I need her alive,”
“Do you know what she was doing the night she disappeared?”
“No.”
“She was trying to bring Jeremy back, for Elena. As mad as I am about her being I the underworld I’m glad
he took her because if he hadn’t she would be joining me on the Otherside well
before her time. I want to get Bonnie back but I want her to live a long happy
life and she can’t do that with Elena around—she sacrifices too much.”
“I get what you’re saying but you and I both know this veil
needs to come up and not just to save my ass. You’ve sad it yourself—nature
always finds a balance and it’s been absolute chaos for months. This isn’t
going to end well for anyone.”
A long silence sat between them before Sheila spoke again.
“Lucy, my sister’s daughter, she should be able to help you. Although I can’t
guarantee she will.”
It had been four months. Four months since she’d seen her Grams, four months since she’d seen her
friends, four months since she’d seen her dad and though she missed them—it got
easier and easier to be apart from them. The more her affection grew for Kai,
this place, even his dog, the more tempted she was to give in, but she held
strong.
They’re in the middle of a game of Monopoly when a new soul
entered. She was winning much to Kai’s annoyance—he’d had years of experience
and never once had he lost this game—she must have been cheating.
“Aren’t you going to get that?”
“No, I’m busy.”
“Someone needs to tell them what’s going on. They must be so
confused.”
“So, they all are, doesn’t mean I have time for them.”
“If you’re not going to greet them then I will.” She got up
in a huff leaving Kai alone with the Monopoly board.
She met them at the river—it was a male. She expected a
completely a terrified soul but found them to be pretty calm. When she was closer to him she realized she
knew him and her stomach dropped.
“Matt?” she said teary-eyed.
“Bonnie!” he shouted excited.
“I found you.”
“What are you doing here? The only people who come down here
are-” she couldn’t finish her sentence thinking about his fate.
“I know and I’m technically dead, but your cousin Lucy is
going to bring me back.”
“What?”
“I came to get you.”
“But how?”
“Just take my hand.”
“Take his hand, Bonnie.”
Kai’s voice startled her out of her reverie. She turned to look at him. “It’s
what you’ve been asking for, for months. Take it.” He sounded eerily calm to
her.
“But you don’t want that.” She ran over to him to gauge his facial expression more.
“It’s what you want.” His expression never changed—it was
completely neutral. She could leave—the decision was all hers.
“Bonnie, we have to go soon—I don’t have much time before
she brings me back.”
She’s still staring at Kai. “You heard the man.”
“Will I ever see you
again?”
“You know I can’t leave, but here-” He grabbed her hand and
put something in it. “Something to
remember me by.”
She looked at her hand and found six pomegranate seeds. He
was truly giving her a choice.”
“Bonnie!” Matt shouted from the other end. “We have to go.”
Without even thinking about it she downed the seeds and ran
over to Matt’s side. Before she grabbed his hand they gave each other knowing
smiles. He couldn’t leave, but she could come back. With a small wave, she took Matt’s hand. Everything went
bright and then she was in her living room surrounded by her friends and
family.
“Bonnie!” Caroline was the first to run over and hug her.
Bonnie was too overwhelmed with everything to acknowledge anything. The entire
gang was there: Stefan, Elena, Damon, Tyler, Matt, and Jeremy. Her dad was even
there, but that didn’t matter because she found the one person she’d missed
most.
“Grams!” She wiggled her way out of Caroline’s arms and ran
to her grandmother. “You’re still here.”
Grams gave her a knowing look. “You never put the veil up like I told you.” Bonnie’s eyes went wide at
this. “Don’t worry baby, Lucy’s got it covered. Just worry about yourself for
now.”
“But-”
“No buts, you’ve been in the underworld for four months, you
need rest and probably some food, you didn’t eat while you were there, did you?”
She had a mischievous smile when she replied, “Of course
not.”
Okay so let’s say hypothetically you write this InFamous!BonKai au (btw I love that game and this idea is perf) would you mostly base it on the Evil Karma route or the Good one?
In the game I am partial to the good ending especially since it doesn’t end in the complete massacre of a Native American tribe BUT I’d go the Evil Karma route because it not only fits Kai more, but Bonkai and their dynamic. I love Bonkai most when it’s chaotic and dark and the Evil Karma route just fits them so well.
Delson is the out cast of his tribe, Kai is the outcast of his coven. Kai seeks revenge on his coven, Delson does the same in the Evil route (although note Kai’s are a lot more justified). Fetch and Delson are very chaotic and very strong in their beliefs which I see Bonkai being. Though half of that is true with the good karma, they’re missing that bit of chaos that I love from pairings like this. I mean on the Evil route they essentially make a sex tape right after killing someone, and if that ain’t some Bonkai shit.
So yeah, I would base it mostly on the the Evil Karma, but I would keep some of the Good Karma elements because while the Evil Karma route is a more fun and more powerful, there are some things they did more effectively like target the right people instead of random protesters.

1. Stelena honestly. It might be because I dont like Elena but honestly they’re boring (note I in no way shape or form ship Delena). More so they make each other boring like Stefan is never more at his straight laced than when he’s with Elena to the point that I was very indifferent about his character until I saw what he was like without her–he was complex with Elena he loses that complexity. And as for Elena there wasn’t really much to her character, she was never complex, but honestly whenever she was in any relationship her worst traits came out, even with Stefan like when Damon nearly rips Bonnie’s throat out, immediately after all she wants to talk about is Stefan, when Bonnie’s grams dies Stefan is still her main concern over Bonnie and it was that very concern that got Grams killed. If she showed any good trait it was usually without a boyfriend.

18. I wouldn’t say denial or even biased I’d just say more narrow-minded and not bad connotation just I’d say they don’t look past what’s written like when I used to casually watch shows and not spend much brain space thinking about the show after it was over. While there are exceptions, I just don’t think much brain power goes into shipping the popular ship, and by that I mean the loud ship in fandom that’s what popular equates.

I feel like I’ve read all the bonkai and klonnie fics and I need something new. You seem like a good person to ask for fic recommendations please?
Finally a week later, sorry it took so long but hopefully the length of this list makes up for it. Please note when asked for fic recs I take them very seriously and as noted by this long list I will rec you a million and one fics especially without many restrictions on what you’re looking for. Some of these you may or may not have read but I’m putting them here anyways in case you hadn’t.
Tonnie:
- Stranger Than Fiction by norrific:
Oh my God, you’re caught between a vampire and a wolf. You know who that makes you’ ‘Don’t say it, Caroline.’ ‘Bella Swan.’ ‘I told you not to say it.’ ‘Come on Bonnie, how could I not say it.‘
While this is a Damon, Bonnie, Tyler love triangle I consider this a Tonnie fic all the way because not much case is made for Bamon at all in this fic.
- Bitten by CarlyCo: Bonnie is back from the dead and she just wants to have a normal life. But her quest for a normalcy is derailed when Damon decides to use authentic ‘hillbilly’ moonshine to get over Elena. A moonshine fueled one-night stand with an unexpected partner results in Bonnie biting off more than she can chew. Although, to be fair, Bonnie wasn’t the one doing the biting.
I love this fic and this author and this pairing it’s like a trifecta of greatness for me.
- Runaway by romeosareveryundependable:
Tyler was told Bonnie was dead so why is she partying it up at a New Orleans nightclub? Before Tyler has a chance to investigate, his memories of Bonnie are wiped and the King of the Quarter himself thrusts Tyler into a struggle for the city, a struggle Bonnie is already very much a part of.
Pretty much what we always wanted with Bonnie away from the MFG, in fact they think she’s dead. It also does a great justice Tyler and framing the pain Klaus put him through. Along with Tonnie there’s also some great Klonnie flirting.
- Indecent Liasions by charrrmed: The night of the Originals’ ball finds Bonnie taking a walk to clear her head of her problems. She stumbles upon Tyler who is desperately trying to break Klaus’ sire bond, only to suffer a disappointing setback when he learns Bill, who was supposed to mentor him, is dead. Could this be what actually sets him free? What follows is a story about two teenagers, one more lost than the other, coming together and exploring a different use for the banes of their existence, their powers.
A nice sexy alternative to the Mikaelson Ball and why she was missing from it,
- Rebellion by romeosareveryundependable:
Bonnie’s disillusioned after Shane turns out to be just another person looking to take advantage of her, and Tyler’s anger is reaching a boiling point after his mother’s murder. When the two run into each other at a bar, things get physical, and despite (and in spite of) Tyler’s relationship with Caroline, they keep getting physical.
Warning: it is a cheating fic, but has some really hot smut.
- A Side of Lockwood, A Shot of Bennett by Nicole Lo:

TW: Rape, it’s essentially Bonnie and Tyler get kidnapped by either Augustine or the Armoury, I can’t remember which one they chose they’re essentially the same, and are forced to breed to create a better vampire hunter. They obviously bond over the exact same trauma and the desire to leave with the same stakes.

One of my favorite Tonnie fics, is essentially a really long smut fic but there is a plot. It’s essentially a rewrite of season 4.
- Bewitchment by Xenahime92:
Who wishes that Tyler and Bonnie were closer? What if the Masquerade happened differently? ‘How did the pull he once felt for her became the only thing that was literally holding him to the ground and making sure he didn’t drown? In all of one night, Bonnie became his air.. and he wouldn’t change it for anything in this world.
I think the summary explains it all. Warning it does bash the main trio and Katherine.
- Joys of Sex by DizniPrinzess:
Bonnie and Tyler embark on a sexual journey together. Takes place before the show starts in their Sophomore year.
It’s a smut fic that does a great job of not over-sexualizing Bonnie, it’s literally her journey into having sex and the fun and not so fun parts of it.
- Flesh by waitingforyouonce: Tyler returns to Mystic Falls intent on getting revenge on Klaus, but a charged encounter with a recently resurrected Bonnie changes his focus and he decides to stay in town for a different reason.
Another smut fic that deals with the aftermath of Klaus banishing Tyler but takes a sexy detour.
- First of All… by Angelika:
When Tyler first gets the words “First of all, bitch…” on his arm as his mark, he is obviously less than pleased. He also never expected that it would be the response to tapping Bonnie (also known as “Hot Girl Who Works at the School LIbrary”) on the shoulder two years later. Unfortunately, Bonnie thinks he’s a spoiled, arrogant, douchebag. She’s right, obviously (not that he’d ever admit it).
An adorable soulmate fic that features a Bonnie and Tyler in college with none of the things that happened in canon so they’re a lot more light-hearted.
Shennett:
- Rate My Professor by charrrmed:
College preparedness includes meeting your professor before the first day of class. A visit to Whitmore leads to Bonnie’s first teacher evaluation, Caroline’s turn as a mentor, and Elena’s first blood high.
A fic that plays on what I really liked about Shennett in the beginning which was that he brought back S1 Bonnie who was bubbly and full of wonder. Also there’s some pretty hot sex and it’s essentially what 4×04 should have been.
- Mentor by Albion19: Missing scene set in 4×10. Shane promises to always protect her and Bonnie starts to realise it is more than a mentoring relationship for her.
One of many nice AU’s of season four but with Shennett, the ship I was never quite able to get over.
- Where was my fault in loving you? by Ana Graves:
Bonnie Bennett didn’t really know what love and hate was until she met Him. He changed everything. Her understanding of the world, her feelings, her passions. He changed her for good. When she is trapped between loyalty, desires, love and hatred – what would she choose? Bonnie & Shane, takes place after 4×10; T for now.
Unfortunately there’s only one short chapter but when it comes to this pair I take what I can get especially if it’s well written.
- Paradise Circus by MidnightStorm6593:
Eventually she gives in just like he knew she would.
It’s not really a Shennett but more of a Bonnie x Silas fic, in Shane’s body.
Again I take what I can get with this pairing.
It’s a great dark alternative to season 4, but it’s a smutty one shot.
Bamon:
- All War is Based On Deception by CarlyCo:
Bonnie Bennett has been in love with unrepentant playboy Damon Salvatore for as long as she can remember. On the worst day of her life, the young woman learned that she was going to be his wife. At first, it felt like a dream come true. The merger of their powerful families increased their wealth and influence exponentially. There wasn’t a woman or man alive that wasn’t envious. One of my favorite fic ever, it’s just so elaborate and well thoughout It’s Bamon probably in it’s purest form in that Damon doesn’t deserve her and in turn loses her and almost everything. It’s not finished yet, but at some point I assume he does earn her back, but as of right now it’s very Tonnie oriented as far as pairings go, but so much more than pairings are going on in this fic.
- Something Real by Gurl6:
Even if she was less vapid and more interesting than the other women he was seeing, this thing tonight wasn’t going beyond coffee and hopefully sex. (AU, No Supernatural)
A nice all human Bamon fic that, like most Bamon fics, has him OOC while completely in character because that’s the only way to write him in a palatable way.

This is a great fic that I read in one whole night when I should have been sleeping.

Damon Salvatore could be arrogant, annoying, and sometimes downright intolerable. It’s a nice AH/AU that basically rewrites the whole MFG. It has a Damon who fights for Bonnie, a Bonnie who has multiple people vying for her attention.

Like most of my Bamon recs it’s AH which makes sense because that’s really the only way I tolerate Damon, that’s very in character to how their relationship/friendshi would have evolved. as noted by “both” there’s the original and the rewrite, both are great.

Again me and my AH/AU ass, this is a great kis fic as well as over arcing story ans the kids don’t take over the fic. It’s a great perspective on life in poorer communities and the system.

Bonnie and Damon have never been able to stand each other, despite the fact that she’s best friends with his brother. Struggling to break free of their own toxic relationships, they find an escape in each other, while desperately trying to fight any feelings that may go beyond the physical. AU/AH
An AH enemies to lovers fic, not really for Tyler fans, nut note he’s wildly OOC and there mostly to serve as an opposing party for Bamon to show in contrast. But it’s a really great fic and if you love Stelena is feature a great deal of them as well.

A zombie apocalypse AU and the only one I’m recing that has Damon as a vampire and Bonnie as a witch. It does have a depressing undertone but it’s a zombie apocalypse so why wouldn’t it. This fic is a great AU and expansion to the lore.

This fic is essentially the epitome of “Bonnie and Stefan deserve better.”

This is one of my favorite fics of all time. It’s a fic about the adults of TVD Pre-canon. My favorite chapters are John Gilbert, Jenna Sommers, and Liz Forbes. It brought on pairings I would have never thought of and a whole new light to John Gilbert having to watch his brother raise his daughter. I consider this fic canon it’s that good.

Literally my first fic in the fandom, first smut fic, and first Bonnie fic. I haven’t reread it in a while so it’s probably not that great but I do at some point plan to go back to this and finish my original concept. Also warning,it has cheating which I’m realizing is a theme with me, lol.
- Life (Sh*t) Happens:
Bonnie’s at Whitmore University when her life complicates. Her affair with her college professor ends when her friendship with her best friend is on the rocks all the while having to deal with her annoying never shuts up neighbor who’s cable ran out.

- Outlaws:
In the 30s Kai Parker has been exiled from the Gemini coven and is living a life of crime traveling across America leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. He ends up in Mystic Falls during one of his travels and meets Bonnie Bennett, a witch who’s had a lot of misfortune. They have a connection that takes them on a journey neither expected.

Qetsiyah x Stefan: ew / nonono / maybe / ship it / aww / otp / MY HEART
When I think about season 5 the only bearable part that I actually like was Qetsiyah, but I especially loved her with Silas, and Stefan.They had a chemistry that could go from charge to sweet and I loved every second of it. In fact it’s only thing I loved, not only from that season, but also from Silas or Stefan. She reignited any feelings I had about Stefan (to clarify it’s not that I didn’t like him before I just didn’t care about him. As a casual viewer he’s a very bland character until he’s with anyone but Elena or Damon) and I only liked Silas when he was in scenes with her.
