My only issue with Bonkai is that in canon, I don’t see how it would work because Bonnie has strong morals but as soon as she was under the Salvatore (especially Damon) spell she’d be a bit hypocritical. Like S6 and onwards she was under the Damon spell a bit. It was annoying how the main characters were under their spell.

fictionxlover:

TVD became the Damon show where everyone just propped him and excused him of his shit behavior. It got annoying af!!

I enjoy Bonkai dynamic partly because of that and the thing is we never got that resolution or closure (except in fanfics) 😭

I do think Bon has that darkness in her and that comes out when he is around. When she first meets him and discovers he does not know the spell she kills him. She doesn’t know that he can come back to life? I don’t think that was established at all tbh 👀 and from what we saw with Bon in past S1-5 she never was like that. Yeah she took down bad guys but she never just murdered someone that quick. Also even though their season 8 reunion was short you see her smile and get pleasure out of leaving him in a 2018 prison world 💀😆

The darkness is in there but I think it was never explored because like you said she began kissing Damon’s/Salvatore ass and her purpose was to just prop Damon (fucking plec) 😩🙄.

Bonnie’s darkness was supposed to be explored in season 4 with Expression. At the time I remember the writers and actors talking about her getting a dark storyline and hyping it all up, and, as usual, that hype turned out to be false, but in any case I do feel like that’s where the show establishes she has a dark side. Her killing Kai didn’t feel that OOC to me because she’s very no nonsense and it reminded me of when she almost killed Elena (which I still wish she did, had the Salvatore’s not been there I’m very sure she would have succeeded). She doesn’t just decide to kill Elena, Elena had literally stepped on her last nerve with petty shit she did not have time for–she did not have time for Kai and his antics so she killed him eliminating the nonsense.

But back to her dark side, there’s a reason it was such an exciting potential plot in season 4 and that’s because she had every reason to go dark which is established after Damon turns her mom. When she sees Rebekah has him tied up she just leaves him there, he turned he mom and then expected her to be grateful that she didn’t just kill her. Everyone always expects her to “get over herself” and help them. There is so much repressed with Bonnie that the only real way to get it out is to explore her dark side, but show never does because a) that would give her agency and b) no one would have a leg to stand on they can’t paint her as the villain of the situation because she’d be right and especially in reference to the MFG who’s morals are lose at best.

Her being with Kai doesn’t really violate her morals because her reasons for them are personal. The reason she hates vampires is because her Grams dies because of it. The reason why she hates Silas is because he screwed with her head. The reason why she hates anything is because it directly effects her and while Kai does directly affects her isn’t the reason why she lose things. That’s why her forgiving Damon over Kai is so frustrating because she has lost a lot from Damon, but I do give her a lot of slack because all she needed was time to forgive which she was not given.

bonkai-reign:

So I hear the CW gave the green light to the Charmed reboot and Hope and Alaric twins are getting some spin off as well. And I’m just sitting here thinking why the Bennetts and Gemini couldn’t get a spinoff on netflix? That would’ve actually been new and exciting instead of a Charmed reboot and the Harry Potter rip off.

That’s the thing, technically the last remaining Gemini’s are there, it’s the Bennetts who are very intentionally left out and I’m pretty sure that’s not just because Kat won’t come back. Plec has spent a lot of time on TO and even TVD trying to erase the power of the Bennetts, by conveniently adding white witches who:

  • Are more powerful than Bonnie
  • Have more knowhow than Bonnie
  • Have more agency than any Bennett witch
  • Who get the credit for spells stolen from Bennett witches

Like slowly and slowly not only were Bennett witches edged out of the series, but so were black ones in general and when they are in the series they’re always seen a beneath the white witches.

But damn I keep wishing that campaign for “Coven” gets picked up but I know that would be bella expensive to by from not only the CW, but also HarperCollins.

Bonkai Parallels 6×08//6×17

Can we just acknowledge the fact that neither Bonnie nor Kai look that happy to be leaving the other in the prison worlds. You’d expect Kai to at least have a maniacal grin on his face like he usually does when he stabs someone. And as I mentioned in a different post she should definitely be happy to be leaving him with as much of big deal she made this to be. But both look, underwhelmed like it’s not as exciting as they thought it would be.

Bonkai Travels

“We’re going to get lost!”

“We’re not gonna get lost.”

“You threw out the GPS!”

“Because she wouldn’t shut up.”

“She was telling you where to go!”

“I already know where to go! I’ve been there a zillion times and I’ve never gotten lost!”

“You wouldn’t know if you were lost! There was no one there to correct you!”

“And yet I still knew where I was.”

“You sure about that?”

“C’mon Bonnie, what does it matter if we get lost? I thought the point was to have an adventure. The best adventures usually happen while lost.”

“Says who?”

“Says me. What do you say Bon? Get lost with me?”

“I’m here aren’t I?”

“And that’s all we need.” Kai smiles.

“That’s all we need.” Bonnie leans over the center console and kisses him.

“I’m driving here! Don’t want to kill us before we get anywhere. Things are finally good.”

Bonnie sits back and looks at the scenery passing by. “We’re finally living,” she whispers to herself.

Me and the Devil

“I bring things back from the dead.”

“Then why didn’t you bring your Grams back?”

“Because some things should stay dead.” The room is silent. “Are you one of them?”

“Do I really have a say in it?”

“You do now.”

The Gemini coven target Bonnie when they learn that she can go against nature by bringing the dead back. In order to fight them off she uncovers their dirty little secret, Kai. They both work together to take the Gemini Coven.

bonkai-coven:

Have we already discussed bonkai as parents? See, Bonnie is pretty obvious to me. She would be that MILF who’s also like best friends with her kids and makes the best chocolate chip cookies. I’m not so sure about Kai though. Especially if their kids were also siphons. Would he end up being just like Joshua because that’s all he’s ever known? Or would he try really hard to be better than his father and be all supportive and stuff because he understands what his kids are going through?

Because Josie and Lizzy came out siphons I always kinda headcanoned Kai’s children coming out as “normal” witches to parallel that and challenge Joshua’s ideas about siphons and how they come about. Kai’s the abomination so everyone in his family expected him to have more abominations and Jo’s the good twin so they expect her children to be likewise. Plus I like subverting expectations.

As for parenting ability Bonnie has it in the bag already. She was already kinda the mom friend, so her transitioning to a mom wouldn’t be that hard. Plus it would be nice, if she was going to lay down her life, it be for someone who was a) worth it and b) make sense. That her family would come before friends for once.

Kai, well it kinda depends on what iteration although I do think both would care a great deal about their children just due bow he felt about Joshua. “It’s like his own kids didn’t even matter to him.” Even as a sociopath he understands that your kids are supposed to come first, that they’re supposed to matter.

Pre-merge Kai: I’ll admit, definitely not ideal and that’s actually why I’d like to see it more, it creates a situation of more tension thus more entertainment. Sociopaths can care about their children just not in the same way a normal parent. They mostly see the child as an extension of themself and that’s pretty much the only way they care about them. I see Kai doing the same thing, but not only as an extension of himself, but Bonnie as well. It’s well known that he didn’t care about much beyond himself, and Bonnie. I honestly think that the kid being Bonnie’s would affect him more, that his kid is part of the person who fascinates him most in the world. As for his parenting skills, I imagine him being a little despondent, but I don’t think he actually be thst bad, like he would be overly honest as a parent and would probably get a kick out of the overly honest nature of children. Of course his reaction to his child is entirely dependent on what their child would be like, but in either case it would fall heavy on Bonnie to maintain the balance so their kid doesn’t end up completely screwed up.

Post-merge Kai: A lot better situation which I can’t help but imagining being an overly cheesy fluffy domestic fic which is really not my jam and probably why I find it a lot less interesting. TBH I don’t really know what to expect from him except normal dad things. Of course he’d be scared he’s going to screw everything up but won’t. His sense of humor I imagine staying the same but I don’t really see how someone can pull off them in a more nuanced way that I personally find appealing. It’s why I wasn’t a big fan of this version of Kai to begin with because while he did gain development, it also took away a lot of interesting things away from him. I imagine Bonkai as parents with post-merge Kai to be a little too ordinary for my liking.
