Does Bonnie look a little sad that she’s leaving Kai?

Maybe I’ve been staring at it too long or something, but she doesn’t seem as happy as the show made her out to be when she got her revenge. I can see the obvious slight smirk, but towards the end she looks almost stoic. It could be the lighting, or my biased perception of things, but when I first watched this moment I remember her looking a lot more satisfied about leaving him.

When I first watched it, I was like ‘yeah, she’s smirking because she really pulled a number on him’, etc. But after seeing her reaction to Kai’s begging to her in S8, looking back at this, I definitely see some resignation there. I do believe she still felt mostly satisfied but she’s resigned; begrudgingly accepting how things went down between her and Kai. Like this isn’t really gloating and not nearly as expressive as you’d think considering how much she couldn’t stand him at that point, but was finally able to trap him (supposedly for good). I agree, Bonnie’s look seems more conflicted as it appeared at first glance.

I do think she’s mostly satisfied which is why I said a little sad, but towards the end it’s kind of like she’s processing that she’ll never see him again and what she just did by leaving him there, and she’s not as happy as she thought she’d be. Like something close to regret, but not quite. I imagine in her head she’s thinking. This is how things have to be.

I really miss when Chris was on TVD, because even though he played Kai, a literal sociopath, somehow he didn’t receive as much hate from little children who have nothing better to do with their lives then send rude things to a real person over a fictional character that has nothing to do with how a show is written like he is now! I miss the days when Bonnie and Kai had scenes together, and Chris and Kat were doing panels together, I miss the days when Chris was not part of a show with a horrible toxic fandom, when he could go online without seeing horrible things being said about him. I just miss it okay?!!

TVD fandom loved Chris and a lot of just wanted him to do a spin-off with Kat. Chris is a strong person so I think he’ll be ok. I’m still hoping Kat will change her mind in the future and be Bonnie again if they offer her a spin-off. I want a Bonnie and Kai reunion so bad! I just hate how TVD fans are getting dragged into the drama. A lot of us stopped using the Chris Wood tag because of it.

I pretty much would only watch the spin off if Julie Plec and/or Caroline Dries weren’t attached which incidentally I think is pretty much the only way I think Kat would come back to the role. When I was making my survey and doing some research for it I realized how much the writers, specifically those ones, tried to sabotage Bonnie/Kat. Literally the only good things to happen to her character was because they were forced to. They finally upped her wardrobe because Nina was leaving and the focus had to shift to her. She finally got a canon love interest (Enzo) and it’s the most low effort, last minute piece of shit written and the only reason why it’s there is because of Candice’s pregnancy and Steroline couldn’t take front and center like she wanted. In other words, the writers were forced to give her a love interest and was so reluctant that they put no effort in it. Bonnie only became important to the characters in the last three seasons because Nina left and Candice got pregnant and even then she still gets pushed aside as a secondary character. Every good change with her is not only reluctant but half-assed because they couldn’t even let her keep whatever bit of agency she had by declaring she was done sacrifing herself for others (and immediately at that).

I love the idea of a Kai/Bonkai spin off as much as the next person, but the only way anyone can be for it is if the writing issues don’t transfer over and treatment of Bonnie’s character improves by a large margin. As in she’s treated as important as her character actually is and has agency.

Kai: That screwed me up. Big time.

Bonnie: Give me some luck.

I was so touched by that scene with Bonnie and the twins. The girls had just accidentally killed her by siphoning her magic, but they believe they saved her. She asks for a kiss for luck and they touch her instead and she lets them. The twins who were starting to be isolated for what they are, who can kill witches with a touch and they’re only shown love, acceptance and affection.

Contrast with Kai and it’s heartbreaking.

*ugly cries*

@albion19 I like to think Bonnie took something from her experience with Kai in that situation

Yeah I definitely think she did

Bonnie is an old fashioned witch in Salem in 1693 (including brewing potions in her kettle, riding broomsticks, ancient spell books, magical charms…). When her lover Kai dies she uses black magic to bring him back from the death.
