So I finished watching How It Ends on netflix and it was…okay. Not super out of this world but to me it wasn’t boring, it just mildly held my attention.
My messy thoughts under the cut
i agree with so much of this! i wanted more sam. what did she go through with jeremiah that she seemed to trust him like that? like (spoiler alert), if my dude came back after i might’ve assumed he was dead, i wouldn’t leave him to go chill with another guy in the middle of the night. yeah, he saved her life (or maybe they helped each other), but again, she was reunited with her fiance and (spoiler) mourning her father. the eleventh hour love triangle was a weird arc.
i wish ricki had stuck around longer because i really liked her, but i’m headcanoning that will and sam come across her after they escape the huge cloud.
i strongly agree this should’ve been (or could be) a mini-series. obvi i wanted more kat. but i wanted more about the incident(s)? jeremiah and the people on the radio speculating it was a nuclear attack. the birds and the northern lights and the compass going haywire hint at some natural disaster. or a natural disaster orchestrated. and there was nothing satisfying about the lack of answers.
but that make-out scene when she pulled off her top and ain’t had no bra on… 😵
“but that make-out scene when she pulled off her top and ain’t had no bra on…” BITCH IF THAT WASN’T ME
I like the movie a lot more than most of y’all, I just think it needed to be tightened up. If it had focused as much Sam and her trials as much as it did on Will and his trials, it 100% would have been better bc the story would be told on two fronts, possibly lending more background to the apocalypse, and their bond would have been delved into so much more bc it would show Sam yearning for Will and dealing with being pregnant/not certain of the father’s fate as much as Will yearning for Sam and being worried for his fiancee and child. I’m just saying: Kat can lead a movie if ppl would just let her.
The movie wasn’t bad, compared to a lot of her other films this was a step. Like you said it needed to tighten up more also it need a point. There was no central theme or anything, it was basically a road trip film but minus character development. By the end o didn’t feel like any of the characters had learned anything or anything had changed for them.
I was fine with the little to no explanation for why it was all happening (random conspiracy theory at the end doesn’t count) because apocalypse situations aren’t meant to be explained, I just wished that it would have shown the events also the reason why people IMMEDIATELY started killing each other.
Definitely needed more Sam, I get they needed suspense of whether or not she lived but there could have at least been flashbacks or something. They driving across country for this one girl that we the audience don’t know very well.
Anyway I’ll talk more about it in my review. I was going to finish it yesterday after I saw it on Saturday, but I was way too hung over to do anything (including walk).
