Bonkai 1950s AU

His parents told him never to go to that part of town, Albina. Said it was where the uncivilized lived. He never put much stock into their beliefs and the moment he saw her, he never would. 

She was outside a record store, ’Tutti Frutti’ playing loudly from inside. Children from the neighborhood were gathered around taking her dancing form as instruction. He was enamored. The way she moved, the pure joy on her face as she danced as though no one was watching was all it took. He knew he had to know her.  


After surviving dangerous work conditions at the ship yard an a flood that destroyed his home Rudy Hopkins rises out the ashes and pursues his passion of music by opening a record store. His daughter, Bonnie, who as the same passion for music as him, helps him everyday after school at the shop. When Kai Parker skips school one day and goes to the part of town his religious parents specifically forbid him from going he finds himself enamored with the record store owners daughter.

Kai and Bonnie face many obstacles in 1956 Portland when they fall in love at a record shop.
