I don’t have a lot of details but it’s in the podcast Candice and Kayla do for the show. They recounted a lot of the things they did with the cast bonding and Kat was never there for a lot if it, including an actual “Friendsgiving”.

According to this they spent Canadian Thanksgiving together which is really sweet when you consider the fact that in the early days of TVD the cast did a lot of activities together including Thanksgiving which Kat was never a part of.
Carina is as fake as Julie plec. She is trying to kiss up to Kat either to get her to guest star on legacies or wanting to say she has a new black best friend. Why is she even here?
Listen I know next to nothing about Carina beyond what I’ve learned from these asks, but what I do know is when someone is being fake and out of the blue congratulations and compliments falls under that category, hard.
I honestly don’t know what she wants to ask for, Legacies seems like the easiest answer but also makes the least sense given their mission to erasure the Bennetts and everything they’ve done. However, sadly that goal is a bit easier to accomplish when the Bennett is actually there for the comparison, but either way it still makes no sense since they can create one out of thin air. It’s probably more of a PR thing at this point.
Carina, from what I understood, back in the day when she was working and writing for zap2it was always very anti Bonnie and loved to shade Kat so it’s especially transparent that she’d even be looking through her Instagram let alone congratulating her for anything.
Of course TVD would hire a writer from zap2it to write for TO, smh.
Anyway, very transparent, that girl don’t give a damn about Kat she just wants something. What exactly, idk, but only a white girl who clearly has had things handed to her would think that small of a gesture would work.
Lol no she didn’t even like the comment. But I agree, it was random so I doubt it was sincere. But I’ve always said that Kat seems to be more aware about how tvd has treated her in recent years. I never understood why she stayed on the show despite all the sidelining but I think she genuinely thought they’d treat Bonnie better and when they didn’t, she cut them off, which I’m happy about.
Yeah, she’s aware, more than we are, what replying to that comment will lead to.
As for why she stayed on the show, there’s many reason but I’m going to list a few:
1) Her contract wasn’t up. While they could kill Bonnie, and thus fire her, at any moment the same wasn’t true for her. She could have quit if she wanted but that would have stopped her from being able to take other work not just due to the contract but also risk being blacklisted. If I recall correctly sometime before season 5 she tried to get out with the perfect opening of Bonnie’s death but of course Plec kept her on because how can the show function with her magic fix-it.
2) Kinda in that same vein but for different reasons, she didn’t want to be blacklisted. For the same reasons why Paul, Ian, and Nina can talk shit about the show but not her, she isn’t given the luxury of doing what she wants due to racial biases. You think the fandom is crazy every time she expresses any displeasure with the show and call her “ungrateful” imagine how Hollywood would react. To them she was always a diversity quota, if she steps out of line they’re going to move on to the next one who “acts right” acts “grateful” for the opportunity.
3) As you stated, she thought they’d treat Bonnie better, and if you’ll notice right when contract was about to end was when Bonnie’s storylines were getting better and it looked like she was going to be a lead. Of course we know what happens after that, and Kat does too because right after the BS from season 7 she announced season 8 as her last season which is when her next contract expired.
4) Steady paycheck. Like it or not TVD was the most consistent work she’d ever had which is such a shame because she spent a lot of her time on the show worried they were going to kill her off any second so she saved her money before getting some basic things she needed. We already know that everyone who stayed stayed simply for the money and continues staying because that’s all they have, but now Kat isn’t in need of the steady paycheck they provided because she now has steady work and just continues to get more.
Now that she doesn’t need TVD she has stayed classy in separating herself from it by ignoring anything to do with even when she’s promoting her stuff, unlike a certain other cast mate (Nina), she’s finally speaking out about some of the things she faced while on the show, and still manages to be active with her fans. I’m happy for her and I’m happy that she continues to ignore everything to do with that toxic fandom.
Kat posted a picture of some fan art and she commented “Stunning. Congrats on the new movie Kat! Loved it.”
I stick by my original explanation of she’s trying to get her to guest star on Legacies. That’s the type of thing you say to to someone you’ve barely had any interactions with right before you ask for a favor.
You compliment them in hopes that they write you back and then the door is open to now request things. It’s what you do when you want to ask someone something but don’t know them well enough to just outright say it.
Now I don’t know of that for sure what she’s doing but that sounds like it. Did Kat reply back to her?
It is definitely weird because if she knows the rest of the cast and talks about them and has what seems to be a good relationship with them then they most likely met at some tvd/to related function yet she’s never spoke about Kat or even liked a picture yet now all of a sudden it’s ‘well done’ ‘congratulations’. She’s clout chasing tbh.
That sounds about right, however can you tell me what exactly she was congratulating her on because that might give me a bit more perspective on it. In any case, I don’t think she was being sincere but that might help me figure out if it was meant to be taken as sincere or some shady shit.
I was referencing carina,one of the writers from TO who commented on one of Kat’s posts on insta congratulating her on her film. Idk I just found it funny considering she’s never mentioned Kat before yet she’s spoken about Nina and is good friends with Candice it just seemed fishy. Idk if they want her on legacies or whether they see that’s she’s doing well and want to attach themselves to someone hoping she’ll mention the show or idk it just stuck out because Kat’s never been in her radar.
I find that super weird as well especially since as far as I know she barely knows Kat. She primarily worked on TO and Legacies, had nothing to with TVD and Bonnie never had any crossowe episodes, so beyond a con here and there I don’t think they’ve had much contact.
Weird but I have no explanation for it other than trying to get her on Legacies or she’s trying to use her like the show did with the “I’m not racist I have a black friend” because she’s also faced a lot of backlash in that department as well as Plec for her work on TO.
Lol you know what makes me laugh? When Kat was on tvd none of the writers/producers paid attention to Bonnie and the other roles Kat pursued. Now the show is over and she’s the only one whose STILL getting booked I’m seeing people who have never mentioned her before, congratulating her.
Honestly the only person from TVD to watch anything Kat was in Steven, and maybe Ian, and I only know that because of one very awkward interview with her him and Candice back when Honey 2 came out. But beyond that yeah, everyone was pretty quiet about her projects outside of TVD, however to be fair I don’t remember anyone talking about the others work outside of TVD either.
This is where my lack of social media is going factor in because up until December of last year the only thing I had were Facebook and tumblr, and only one of those I checked regularly, so I don’t know a whole lot about their activity on social media. The most knowledge I have is based on things brought to my attention or interviews I’ve seen over the years so I have no real comment or explanation for this.
My best guess is someone is trying to butter her up to guest star on Legacies despite her making it very clear since before season 8 aired she was never coming back. That was always going to be her last season. People really need to get over Bonnie Bennett and realize after years of the treatment she, and Kat went through, she is not going to subject herself to that again especially since there’s so much better out there for her.
That’s what I mean I remember seeing that post and knowing straight away that it was the main reason so many Nina stans hate Kat. I never bought her whole sweet as pie act.
Make no mistake she knew exactly what she was doing with that IG post. She knows who her fans are and exactly how to control them so with something like that, don’t let the cutesy cat fool you, that was using the power she knew she had against Kat which is an all to familiar feeling from a white girl.
