Exactly. Kat is actually very interactive with her fans which made that we miss you comment that got everyone freaking out (not that they weren’t before) all the more ridiculous. Kat’s fan know exactly where to find her–in the past two years she’s been in a lot of projects and still more to come and even when she isn’t she’s not hard to find because she’s one of the most interactive cast members with her fan base. But in the end she’s still the one who catches most flack and the worst kind because Nina, Paul, or Ian have to deal with what Kat does just simply due to her skin color, the worst they have to deal with is people badgering them about a show they no longer car about. Nina may get some sexist comments but I have yet to see her get any hate that’s anywhere near as bad as the shit they’ve said to Kat.
Kat can’t so much as breath without getting flack from the TVD fandom. I remember years ago when she was still on the show she did an interview where she said she didn’t identify with Bonnie–it was out of context and she was misquoted–oh dear lord the outcry of the TVD fans all giving the same comments about how she should be grateful and she was rude. That same outcry happened again during her “Twitter-gate” moment where she simply asked people not to tag her in things she’s not in. A simply reasonable request, and even that comment was reasonable because why would someone identify with willingly being the servant of some white girl, but of course because it’s Kat and she’s black she should be nicer and grateful for even being on the show.
Nina only acknowledges fans when she needs to promote something she’s in, Paul has made several scathing comments about the show, Ian noted his dissatisfaction all the time, but none of them get called rude or ungrateful, they actually get praised for how much they seperate themselves from the show. We all know why there’s this difference, but what did we all expect, a racist show can only breed a racist fandom.
People keep saying Kat doesn’t want to play Bonnie anymore because of the way Julie plec treated the character but if you actually follow her social medias she seems more annoyed with the Toxic fandom than Julie plec herself. Kat Graham is trying to work on new projects and is working on new projects but some of yall so called fans only seemed to be concerned about her playing Bonnie. She made it clear before Season 8 aired that Season 8 of TVD would be her last and she was moving on. It was around the same time Ian stated the same thing. I honestly feel like if the fandom would support her other work and stop being so toxic that she would be more open to reprising her role as Bonnie Bennett.
Also I want to point out the fandom that The Vampire Diaries Fandom treated Bonnie like Crap for Years and only from like Season 6 onwards did half of these So called Bonnie fans started to rock with her. Prior to that you guys were calling her a hypocrite, a bitch, mean, annoying, etc. So instead of putting all the blame on Julie plec how about the fandom take some responsibility. If Kat hated the way the Show treated Bonnie she would have left the show around the time Nina did.
Also to those saying she deserved better if you guys truly thought that you wouldn’t be saying she should have ended up with Kai a Psycho who stabbed her and left her for dead or Enzo someone who was threatening her in Season 5(Or did people forget about that). If you truly wanted better for Bonnie you would want her to end up with someone she can have the possibility to have kids and grow old with. You would also want her to end up with someone who hasn’t threatened her life. Just putting that out there.
Now with that said I do love more some Klonnie, Bonkai, and Bonlijah. However I ain’t saying she deserved better while shipping her with this people. I live with the truth these people might not be the best for her.
Julie Plec did have something to do with it. Kat has mentioned in her recent interviews about being sidelined and pushed to the background or hinted on how Bonnie was treated as a token.
And how her new roles gave her a chance to act out different things and explore roles through her acting that Plec was never willing to give to Bonnie. If you play attention to Kat’s interviews she clearly talks about how her doing Bonnie for 8 years influences the roles and characters she seeks out in her post-TVD career.
You’re assuming that because Kat stayed for 8 years that it means she had a happy and carefree time on the show. When you don’t know what BS she had to put up with behind the scenes. As some of her mistreatment from the likes of Julie Plec and Caroline Dries was up front to see. Also Kat mentioned how a male director disrespected her, said that she had no talent and was only hired due to her looks. And she used that as a way to drive herself to prove him wrong.
Just because someone is displeased with a job or aspects of a certain job doesn’t mean that they can quit, if they don’t have something else lined up or another guaranteed source of income. People work everyday with bosses that they don’t like or bosses who treat them badly or work in a place that they aren’t completely happy with. So, really not making a point just because Kat didn’t choose to up and quit, since everyone just doesn’t up and quit a job the second they aren’t happy with some parts of it.
But, now that Kat has steady roles and is being very busy getting booked she has no plans to going back to working for Julie Plec. Chances are slim to none that she will.
I honestly didn’t have the energy to explain this to OP, so I just blocked them and moved on. I’ve seen this argument so many times I’m just done, how does no one not realize the position Kat is in. She doesn’t get to express her negative opinions of the show in any sense without severe backlash, she’s never had that luxury something OP should have understood if they noticed the way the fandom treated her.

Bonnie Bennett was treated like shit for years by both the TVD fandom and the writers. Bonnie got hated on for every little thing she did, especially if she dared stood up to any of the fandoms white fave characters. The fandom, especially Delena Stans wanted Bonnie dead so badly that they campaigned for her death and throw a fit in Julie Plec’s mentions at Bonnie not dying for good in season 5.
Kat confirmed how she received hate because some didn’t like a black actress playing Bonnie. Kat confirmed how she has been receiving racist hate from the TVD fandom. Kat has been relentlessly attacked, harassed, and bullied for 8 years. Including people actually telling her that they hoped she would die in a car crash, including sending her death threats. The Delena fandom even attempted to hack and leak Kat’s phone number because they were bitter that Kat clapped back at one of them that was harassing her,
After enduring 8 years of shit, some have the audacity to be angry at Kat for moving on with her life and career. All because Plec can’t let go of the deadhorse TVD series. Julie Plec only has the CW and the TVD series/spin offs keeping her flop career going. Her other shows on the CW like Containment and The Tomorrow people were cancelled in one season. So all Plec has is to hope that she can drag out TVD spin offs until the earth dies out billions of years from now.
But, some believe Kat is suppose to assist the massa known as Plec and work on TVD spin off shows for all of eternity. And I believe that even Paul said in an interview to a question that he wasn’t interested in doing Legacies or TVD spin offs any longer, saying something like “All good things must come to an end” Yet no one as usual is giving him shit about it.
Ian, Nina, Paul, Candice all aren’t going to be doing Legacies, yet Kat is the only one I see entitled Stans demanding that she do this flop show. All of the TVD and Legacies fandom still coming after Kat can choke.
Wait, who even thought it was in the realm of possibilities that she’d be on Legacies? Before season 8 aired she announced that it was going to be her last season. In an interview right after TVD ended (or maybe it was before) she said she was not interested in any spin-offs, that 8 years was a long time to be on a show. And when asked over Twitter if she would guest star in TO she said no with a sloth meme. Now a over a year later she expresses the same exact sentiments and people are freaking out?
This isn’t news! What bubble were they in? Nothing has changed. Well, actually it has, Kat now has more career opportunities now that she’s not tied to a teenage vampire show where she was constantly disrespected. Unlike certain past cast members she doesn’t need to go back for a paycheck and sink that low.
Kat said it best they’re entitled little brats who need to move on because she has.
How is this news? When TVD ended she straight up said she wasn’t interested in any spin-offs. When asked about appearing in TO she said no in a meme. What the hell makes these people think she’s a) changed her mind and b) would sink that low again, she’s not desperate for work unlike certain past cast members–she doesn’t need to be desperate for work because she’s moved on to better things.
