Kai spots Bonnie at the club and is mesmerized by her…“magic”
okay but where is that gif of Kat Graham from 👀
While I was working on “Black is the Color of My True Love’s Hair” I found that gif through a random Google Image search of “Kat Graham gif”. I tried finding out what it was from but came up empty, if I had to guess from the image in the right corner, it’s from a radio show she did for 93.1 in some city. I’m sure the performance is probably on YT somewhere.
When I found the gif what I was more curious about was the guy in the back really feelin’ himself and if he was her back up dancer or something.
Okay so like I did some digging and I found it? lmfaoo but I’m just now noticing the guy and I’m giggling. he’s so into it
Yeah once you get past Kat’s amazing ass you realize there’s some dude in the corner who seems like he shouldn’t be there because she’s clearly facing away from the crowd meaning he’s on the stage. Which is why I was like is he a backup dancer, an overzealous fan, the radio DJ, what?
Did you find the video it originated from or just the gif?
Apparently he’s her dance choreographer. I found the video it originated from. Like the whole performance and it’s-
Homegirl knew exactly what she was doing, lifted up her dress and everything so they could get that shot.
Also I think the other guy was her choreographer because she said “Mark” and the guy in the corner is Jimmy, but either way in context it looks way less weird, well marginally.
One of the things that drives me insane about Bonnie’s wardrobe in the early seasons is that it doesn’t tell me much about her. It never adds to her character like the others did.
Caroline was always in short dresses. Occasionally she wore jeans but it was always something that was clearly meant to be fashionable. Her clothes matched her personality which at the time meant to be bitch, but was insecure and someone who cared too much about her appearance and as such her wardrobe matched that.
Elena was always wearing “girl next door” clothes which is a weird classification that in of itself, but she wore jeans and converse and a solid color shirt. Very plain, it was almost modeled after Clark Kent where they always tried to keep him in primary colors. What that told me is that she was always meant to be the self-insert protagonist. There wasn’t much to her wardrobe because there was never meant to be much to her character beyond being “relatable” so that anyone could vicariously live through her. But either way it matched her.
However Bonnie, her wardrobe was always supposed to be eccentric. Her clothes were always supposed to be a little off, but a little off in a hippie sense, not wearing Caroline and Elena’s hand-me-downs way and it drives me insane that they rarely are off in that way. That’s what gets me about her wardrobe being bad, it’s not that she has the worst clothes and hair, it’s that no thought was given when they were coming up with it. They mostly just put her in the same clothes as everyone else.
In the books she wore interesting pieces and was very spiritual, in that she beleived in the witch stuff. There was very little skepticism and that was probably one of the first ways they cut down her character. You could tell they tried to add some BoHo looks but they never quite followed through. Most of the time seasons 1-4 she was either dressed in frumpy sweaters or exactly the same as Elena. She didn’t have much individuality in her wardrobe which makes when Caroline gives her Damon’s (Emily’s) necklace in season 1 because she knows it’s her style, make no sense because by that point Bonnie doesn’t have a style, or distinct look. She doesn’t wear anything that’s hers.
Unless it was a decade dance she was mostly in jeans and a solid color. Occasionally dress, but otherwise pretty basic, no real interesting prints like her character suggest she should. She doesn’t get any kind of distinct style until about season 5 which you can tell is when they started letting Kat have more influence over her wardrobe, noted by the haircut and the fact that she’s wearing clothes that were completely different from the previous ones. This change could be due to college, as they did up all of the girls’ wardrobe, but also note that they still had Bonnie mostly dressing like Elena as well, until she gets to 1994 at which point I think Kat had complete control over her wardrobe as she has a lot of nostalgia for the 90s and Plec didn’t have much investment in her character at the time. (It took that season for Plec to notice the potential of Bonnie and even then still squandered it).
We know that her character doesn’t get better clothes until after she gets “value” by Elena leaving and befriending Damon, but I’m willing to bet that it’s also because Plec didn’t care enough about how Bonnie dressed and just gave Kat free range as well which while was a benefit on the end, it says just how much thought was put into her character in general and the fact that the only person who had any investment in Bonnie was Kat.
So I was looking up some Kat Graham photos for something I was working on and found this photo.
Confession: I’m kinda a hoarder, I have a bunch of old Glamour and Seventeen magazines that I haven’t read yet from a subscription I had years ago and I’m just now going through them to throw them away because I’m that neurotic. Anyways I’m going through a Glamour from July 2013 and find this.
The same exact photo that I found through Google not too long ago. How crazy is that? (Please don’t answer that, I know it’s crazy that I have magazines from nearly 5 years ago).
“I’m a big Ninja Turtles/ Nickelodeon fan. I have always watched the cartoon and every time time I’ve seen it whether it’s in live action or in animation … it has never been an African American girl…I had said to myself that moving forward, all of the projects that I would do would be to elevate being a black girl and elevate the community, and take on different roles that were maybe originally written or cast for a white girl — and take that and kind of grab it by the balls.”
I really miss when Chris was on TVD, because even though he played Kai, a literal sociopath, somehow he didn’t receive as much hate from little children who have nothing better to do with their lives then send rude things to a real person over a fictional character that has nothing to do with how a show is written like he is now! I miss the days when Bonnie and Kai had scenes together, and Chris and Kat were doing panels together, I miss the days when Chris was not part of a show with a horrible toxic fandom, when he could go online without seeing horrible things being said about him. I just miss it okay?!!
TVD fandom loved Chris and a lot of just wanted him to do a spin-off with Kat. Chris is a strong person so I think he’ll be ok. I’m still hoping Kat will change her mind in the future and be Bonnie again if they offer her a spin-off. I want a Bonnie and Kai reunion so bad! I just hate how TVD fans are getting dragged into the drama. A lot of us stopped using the Chris Wood tag because of it.
I pretty much would only watch the spin off if Julie Plec and/or Caroline Dries weren’t attached which incidentally I think is pretty much the only way I think Kat would come back to the role. When I was making my survey and doing some research for it I realized how much the writers, specifically those ones, tried to sabotage Bonnie/Kat. Literally the only good things to happen to her character was because they were forced to. They finally upped her wardrobe because Nina was leaving and the focus had to shift to her. She finally got a canon love interest (Enzo) and it’s the most low effort, last minute piece of shit written and the only reason why it’s there is because of Candice’s pregnancy and Steroline couldn’t take front and center like she wanted. In other words, the writers were forced to give her a love interest and was so reluctant that they put no effort in it. Bonnie only became important to the characters in the last three seasons because Nina left and Candice got pregnant and even then she still gets pushed aside as a secondary character. Every good change with her is not only reluctant but half-assed because they couldn’t even let her keep whatever bit of agency she had by declaring she was done sacrifing herself for others (and immediately at that).
I love the idea of a Kai/Bonkai spin off as much as the next person, but the only way anyone can be for it is if the writing issues don’t transfer over and treatment of Bonnie’s character improves by a large margin. As in she’s treated as important as her character actually is and has agency.
