#I just really really love the coherency and cohesiveness of tyler’s narrative#the clarity of his POV and how dynamic his story is#like he may have been shafted in terms of screentime but his arc is a thing of beauty#how he starts off with no control over himself at all. no autonomy. so much so that he’s fine with surrendering completely to klaus#even with the sire bond. because like he says to caroline. he’s never had any true control before. so what’s the difference#as far as tyler’s concerned whether it’s the full moon or klaus or his father it’s the same thing in the end#it’s only through exploring the sire bond that tyler begins to realize the value of agency and free will#and realize that he can’t claim agency just by really wanting it. by declaring that he’s not. hurting. CAROLINE.#caroline can’t save him. and his love for her can’t save him either. he has to save himself#and it makes sense that at first tyler can’t save himself FOR himself; that he does it for caroline#because he’s not there yet. it’s only AFTER he’s broken the sire bond and truly become free#that he can stand up for himself in his own right (‘You didn’t give a damn about me.’ ‘It was a long time coming.’)#and it’s as a result of all this that tyler’s worldview broadens. and that leads seamlessly into his S4 story#there’s a crystal clear PROGRESSION there in tyler as a person that’s illustrated so perfectly by this gifset#you can SEE him grow and evolve from one frame to the next and it’s GR10#tyler lockwood #tyler and klaus
Although thing to note: the moment he becomes free is the moment the writers decided that he was if no use to them. He gets shafted for screen time AFTER he gains his autonomy. And I can’t help but notice how this correlates with how POC’s are treated on this show because if they aren’t serving someone they expire real quick.
