I needed this to happen.
Bonnie walking down the street, her thoughts on Cade or whatever and her steps slow down as she sees a blast from the past… And Kai sheepishly waves “oh hey there” like he hasn’t been all over town trying to find her since he got back to Mystic Falls.

Probably over a year now I’ve been working on like a oneshot/4-5 part 813-814 AU called Lifeforms. It’s essentially that but in the AU Bonnie and Kai had sex in 6×21 and Bonkai baby that would contrast Caroline’s forced pregnancy and a son that would contrast Jo’s siphoning twins with being able to produce his own magic.
Essentially the AU would involve Kai stopping at nothing to get to Bonnie and his kid as opposed to the irrelevance he spent in canon. Anyway one day I hope to get it up but right now I’ve got so many plans for it it’ll be a while before I can execute those plans.
Whooo, you already got me hyped. For whatever reason, BonKai baby stories intrigue me (I don’t usually care for baby plots) so I’ll be on the look out when your story drops.
I’m actually a fan of baby plots but I’m very peculiar about which ones I like which is why I get why most people aren’t into them. Like they have to have very minimal fluff or else I’m bored, and lots of angst but not to the point that it becomes a pity party or else I’m annoyed and thinking why this character didn’t just get an abortion for everyone’s benefit.
Baby plots can be very compelling but also just as easily can ruin a story because it in it of itself isn’t compelling or what should be driving the plot–it’s the circumstances around the baby plot that make it compelling.
Anyway if I ever get it out it’s nice to know I have at least one reader.
Yes, this. There’s a fine line and even actual shows mess it up and especially in the supernatural genre, the last thing I’d want is more magical super baby plots (well BonKai babies would be magical but still not at little Jesus levels).
I want the whole picture. Slow burn from enemies to allies to friends to lovers to soul mates type of deal then realistic portrayal of them considering kids or Bonnie/Kai finding out she’s (unintentionally) pregnant. The whole shebang. I wouldn’t want too many jump skips (like oh, they hate each other but now they don’t and here’s the HEA with a baby but showing nothing or hardly anything in between), but because of this, the story would be really long and involved and I understand that’s a heavy task for most writers especially when they have their lives to live. Anyway, I went on a tangent – I’m looking forward to your story regardless. 😂
It’s funny at this point in canon Bonkai babies would have to be at Jesus levels due to Hope and the Twins because surely Bonnie and Kai’s genetics are more powerful than Hope and the Twins combined, but I get what you mean the babies in shows and fics are usually there as magic fix its.
Like Hope is Klaus’ “redemption” and Hayley’s reset button to all the bad she’s done. The twins were literally magic fix its similar to Bonnie but also there to make Caroline and Alaric relevant–neither of them are relevant outside of the twins and that’s not compelling in that of itself.
I don’t mind time jumps just as long as they arent leaps in logic. That was TVD’s main issue in season 7. I was actually a fan of the time jump format it was more mature and gave me hope for better storytelling UNTIL I realized the format was too mature for Plec’s juvenile writing skills. It’s like she didn’t realize that she need the entire story written out from beginning to end before jumbling the order which is why she needed a flashback episode to explain her 3 years later time jump (that still explained fuck all).
There’s ways to have time jumps and even have it be a slow burn you just have to make sure everything written counts and is pertinent to the plot. Which is kinda what I have planned as it’s broken up into parts that aren’t in chronological order.
TBH Hope is irrelevant. Like I don’t watch TO, but from what I heard…that whole plot was a mess. The twins literally should be erased from existence. LOL Even in headcanons, I rarely think to add them in but rather they’re instead a single baby or still twins but not siphoners either way. That was so unnecessary and just cheapens the lore. And I agree that they were added just to make Alaric (ew) and Caroline relevant.
I should clarify. I like time jumps IF done well. Time jumps are necessary because the story template I described above is frankly too damn long even with plenty of writing time and resources, I just don’t want the kind of skips you mentioned in TVD where they did it to push more lazy and short sighted narrative instead of actually building a story. Flashbacks are also the same but I have less faith that they can be done well unlike with time skips. But yeah, no need to detail every minute, but I also hate when stories jump so much (months, years, etc.) for no good reason. Also I hope you don’t think I’m saying this in regards to your story specifically, nah, this is just me in general when I read or map out things.
Weirdly I like the fact that their siphoners for the simple reason that it’s karma–Jo and everyone in the coven spent their time scrutinizing siphoners due to their nature and Jo not only has Siphoners but also the entire covers survival relies on them. The only thing that would have made it better for me is Kai had twins himself (obviously with Bonnie) and they end up “normal” and the entire coven is forced to again rely on a siphoner, Kai, because he has the twins they want more than ever since they would be Bennett’s as well, but he has the twins they aren’t going to get.
Much like baby plots, the twins existence could have been compelling BUT was never utilized in such a manner.
When I tend to keep the twins in, it’s also for that reason, but I also think having a siphoner as coven leader (Kai) is karma enough.
That last one sounds so interesting though. I always pictured BonKai having twins or quadruplets (usually a mix of non-siphoners and siphoners for either), but having all non-siphoners and now the coven prefers his is cool. But I always thought the coven leader’s twins are first in line unless there are none then it goes to the next family so Jo’s wouldn’t be considered unless Kai didn’t have any.
Due to the fact that they were going to use Luke and Liv, this tells me they just need A set of twins not a specific set of else they would have had to use Jo and Kai, no exceptions.
