Wait, whaaaaat!? What is this bullshit!? Stefan, I love you, but NO. Tyler wasn’t doing ANYTHING. He wasn’t advancing on her, physically threatening her, anything – he was straight up telling her to leave, furiously, because holy fuck Caroline, you slept with Klaus, the guy who systematically ruined his life. Playfully. Indulgently. Not for survival, not out of necessity – the dude literally just didn’t like Tyler not wanting to be controlled so he’d fuck with him.

And you slept with him, also playfully and indulgently, not in some dramatic, dark, twisted, downward spiral of a fashion, but because you were horny and wanted rebound sex. And before anybody comes at me, that is NOT slut-shaming, that is people-shaming. That’s a shitty fucking thing for a person to do to someone they even remotely care about, let alone claim to love.

Tyler already sacrificed so damn much to accommodate Caroline’s friends and their needs, put their problems over his own, the same friends who would talk about him like he was a problem they needed to get rid of – he dealt with all of it. And now the last person he really had left in his life (because if there’s anything this show’s obsessed with it’s loving someone for fucking ever so don’t give me that ‘they were broken up!’ malarky) did pretty much the worst thing she could possibly do to him outside of killing him herself. Because it’s Klaus taking the one thing he hadn’t managed to take from him – Caroline’s loyalty. His ability to trust her with everything. His confidante and best friend. Game over, y’all – Klaus wins.

SO THE POINT OF ALL OF THAT is that Tyler has every right to be shocked, furious, hollow, and devastated, which it seems like he was, and does not have the right to physically attack Caroline, which it doesn’t at all seem like he was, and somehow Stefan is swooping in like he’s saving her? And punches Tyler for being drunk and getting mad enough to have his eyes wolf-out, which means nothing? What? No.

There are two very distinct brands on misogyny in my books: one is hating and being aggressive/violent toward women, and the other is not letting women face up to the consequences of their own actions because you think they’re too weak for it. Second one’s a lot scarier because it often masquerades as gallantry. And much as I adore Stefan, this was the second kind.

Caroline seeeeerrrriously fucked up with Tyler, and she deserved 100000000000000% of his anger. Ugh. This show. The Gross Diaries.
