You know, Bonnie…if you’re not careful, I may begin to like you,” Klaus said, smirking as the witch’s eyes widened in horror.

Kai: ,,So you want to tell me you don’t feel the sexual tension between us?“
KPAW2015: DAY 3 – Kai + Favorite quote.
(great) textures used from x & x
Jo: (voiceover) My brother was born without his own magic. He
can only draw it from others. It made him feel like a freak. My parents
saw him acting out, isolating himself, and they realized that he’d never
be capable of leading our coven, so they kept having children until
another set of twins were born.
(In the flashback, Kai opens an armoir, but the children aren’t there. He kicks it, breaking the doors. Jo sobs on the floor)
Jo: (voiceover) Kai figured it out, and he snapped. Fade into you 6×08 (x)
I hope it’s okay I choose a Jo quote for this one! I loved it because, with its short phrase it reveals so much of Kai’s past before he killed his silbings and was sent to his prison-world. How he was the outcast of his own family, his own world. A witch but not really, a monster to everyone he knew.
His parents didn’t seem to act to help him (lovingly) from his mental disorder/rebellion, they just “saw” it happened whenever he acted out (wonder what he did), or isolated himself, when this were strong signs that something wrong.
I pretty much supect that the one thing that prevented Kai from snapping and breaking from his years of being treated like crap by his father, was the merge, the prospect of being the new Gemini Leader. That it was the reason he lived for: not only becoming a real witch, but also his coven most powerful one, as a sort of payback for his shitty life? I think a great deal of things he did when he was a teen was to study magic, to prepare for his leader responsabilties and that he used his siphoning to practice magic. He liked his sister Jo the best, but if she died in the merge, it didn’t bother him – after all this was his coven way.
I wonder if his parents were scared about the fact he was too mad to rule a coven (because he’s however incredibly smart) or if they were scared for themselves, and their own son – especially Joshua. Malachai with his siphoning power + the power of the all coven maybe meant, that he’d took his revenche, delightfuly so, on his mistreatments.
When Kai realised what his parents planned, I felt betrayal, jalousy, red anger, and litteraly his relative stability shattered, his sociopatic side and unmoved ways blurrring everything – leading him to killing anyone standing between him and his dream. Even if it was his younger sibilings, and his toddler brother and sister…
The second reason why I love this quote so much, is that we see how Jo somehow understood his brother or at least tried too, and that she saw in him what her parents (and others?) didn’t. No matter how she pushed him back in the deleted scene, wanting to protect herself, and her upcoming family, I think she was heartbroken too. If she ever felt hope for him she lost it completly the night of the may 10th realising Kai was capable of the worst. But still he was her brother, her twin, a part of her that she can’t connect with anymore, that is gone, forever?
Wow I love this!
OMG, I love this. Supposed to be studying (LOL) but I had to take a break to comment on this because I love discussions on the Gemini coven and the Parkers.
I completely agree that it showed how dedicated and determined Kai was that he learnt and studied magic even without his own powers. I can’t imagine siphoning from his siblings was easy or fun. It was probably humiliating to ask in the first place. I can even imagine his parents actively forbidding it, even of the ones that might have given him willingly (like Jo). And then there would be other siblings who – being siblings – would probably have taunted him with his lack of magic. Children can be malicious, siblings too.
And as for Jo… I could write and talk so much about the twins. I think Jo might actually have been relieved she wasn’t going to merge with Kai since there was always the risk of losing and dying. And considering how she dropped her magic and never looked back for almost two decades – even though Kai was supposed to be safely locked up – I don’t think she was ever happy at home or with magic. Didn’t Kai say to her that she never liked being a witch anyway? Now there could be all sorts of reasons including the (at the very least) lowkey abuse the Parker children suffered from their parents. Or maybe magic was something she never enjoyed because of Kai, growing up with him, and feeling guilty and sorry (at first) and maybe later, scared and repulsed by his lack of magic.
One thing is for sure -the coven is dysfunctional with a capital D. Even Luke/Liv who seem to be fairly normal didn’t escape unscathed. Luke was OK with the merge until Liv insisted that she was definitely going to die from it. Then he backed down. But – Liv was OK with the merge as long as she had a chance to live. And Luke was OK with it as long as there was a fair chance he or his sister would win. No matter how you look at it, that’s majorly f**ked up. That the whole family had so normalized the idea is remarkable.
Anywho… back to hibernation. 😀 😀 😀
This is amazing! (and i’m supposed to be recovering from flu lol, but loved this post)
lol, Thanks to you all, guys! @yocupcakeblog oh I didn’t know you were sick, hope you’re recovering well! and @leianaberrie you were studying lol, but ah a little tumblr break cannot hurt sometimes, haha. I really like your insights and as usual I agree:
Yes, I think asking for magic must have been humiliating for him, when the older son, and also one of the smartest and the more talented of his familly – irony of the sort he born without magic. I really think he was harshly forbidden, and punished by his parents for what he did, and the way he was born.
And yeah, malicious children is a thing. At first when I started writing (mostly for myself) I didn’t want any of my character to be mean: like no parents hating their children to guts, or mean sibilings. But that’s not realistic I realised, I mean people are not black and white either, but they are capable of the best like of the worst and when they have this that what makes characters interesting and realistic.!!! The paragraph where you talk about Jo is 100% what I think about her! I can’t comment it I’ll be saying the same thing, lol. You know, I’ve been writing two one shots about Jo/Kai, a small one where them and Bonnie are around 8 years old and the second one in particular where Jo and Kai are seveteen years old, and meeting in Kai’s appartement (he left home early here), and Jo point of view totally gets by with what you said: who she feels about the coven, how she sees her futur, her possible death, etc. Maybe I should get over my anxiety and finish the last one-shot and post it – I’m just terribly slow at writing, it’s been taking my weeks!
Yes, the Gemini coven is completly dysfonctional and f**ked up, it has broke down their children vision of their life, because they don’t have a choice and death is banalised. I’m super glad that you like talking about the Parker and the Gemini, I do too and I think i’ll have a great surprise for you for next month *wiggles eyebrows*
