this is the funny thing about klaus and bonnie their stories naturally nudge them towards each other despite the writers’ best efforts to convince us otherwise. bonnie has been somehow connected to nearly every significant event in klaus’ life during his time in mystic falls, and when he went over to nola his first significant story-related connection with a character in mystic falls wasn’t caroline or stefan, it was bonnie, who at the time was the Anchor and thus the only person who could verify for him that their reality was indeed going to change. fast forward to TO S5 and klaus showing back up in mystic falls and which other character gets mentioned in relation to him? stefan? damon? elena? nope, alaric suggests contacting bonnie to deal with the klaus situation. in contrast, nearly every single KC interaction both on TVD and TO has required a ridiculous amount of bending and breaking and forcing characters into situations that, rightly, they ought to have never been in. balls, fancy gowns, random phonecalls, letters: all these things have romantic allure but don’t arise organically from the characters’ story. KC has existed in this bubble narrative that’s never had any real bearing on each character’s story…because the writers never intended it to. this is why the fandom has such a rabid inclination: they have to defend their vision against the vision of nearly everyone else including the writers. this is also why the writers were able to successfully bait them for 4 episodes of TO S5 without fundamentally altering their major plot…because KC as a ship has never had the power to change either character’s key goals or motivations. they had four whole episodes and multiple seasons, both of them single and somewhat ready to mingle, and they still didn’t make a significant effort to be with or prioritize each other. i know people loved the almost kiss and kiss but it honestly read like caroline feeling sorry about his impending death rather than actually being in love with him. lmao i mean she walked away from him SMILING knowing he was going to die lmao. anyway, didn’t mean to go off on a tangent about bad writing but, to your point, it doesn’t surprise me if fic writers turn caroline into a witch because doing so would give her an actually meaningful connection to klaus and be the basis of a plot. the show writers did this too…suddenly when klaus showed up we had this narrative about caroline being ignored and always putting her friends first and therefore being susceptible to klaus’ attention when…that was always bonnie? caroline had multiple suitors when klaus showed up and yet we were supposed to buy the premise of KC that klaus and klaus alone appreciated her? sounds cribbed to me. i mean, fast forward a few years and they even went as far as to have caroline (caroline!!) running a school for witches to get her and klaus to interact. anyway my point is that whether or not you ship klonnie romantically the two characters belong in each other’s stories and that’s the ☕️
I remember when Bonnie was mentioned by Klaus, he referenced merely speaking on the phone to a reluctant Bennett witch who filled him in on the collapse of the other side and when Klaus and Bonnie trended the KC stans were PISSED. I lived for it for the very reasons stated in this post.
back when tumblr first destroyed their tagging system there wasn’t a way to filter out KC posts in the character tags, and i peeped a couple of fic posts that showed up, but i only ever got as far as glancing at the summaries out of curiosity because – as much as i’m sure there are talented writers in that fandom who do amazing things with the characters – i have such a visceral distaste for that pairing i can’t stomach the content lol. i did notice a couple where caroline is a witch, and one that had stelena and kennett as side pairings, but that’s it. if some brave soul wanted to undertake the research you’re suggesting i’d be very curious about the findings.
Back when I first started reading fanfic and read any I read some KC and other fics that had her as a background mostly due to the fact that finding fics with Bonnie as a main character in a pairing I liked was far and few between at the time, it’s no wonder why I broke down and started reading Bonkai (I wasn’t familiar with Kai at the time so I was reluctant to the pairing).
Anyway from what I remember of those days she was a) either barely in the fic or b) seen as bitchy and judgemental. The most vivid one I remember they had her with an eating disorder that almost killed her because she wanted to be a model and was dating her agent who was significantly older than her and using her. They were at least sympathetic to her but it was mostly there as a way to make Damon seem sympathetic for saving her so I don’t give it much credit.
I haven’t read much of anything in the TVD fandom that doesn’t have her as a main character, not much else kept my attention so I don’t know what it’s like now a days (I say as someone who’s only been reading fanfic for 4 years).
Although weirdly I could never get into Kennett. I broke down and started reading Bonkai, which was out of my usual because I don’t read fics about characters I’m not familiar with which I wasn’t at the time familiar with Kai since I stopped watching the show, but could never get into Kennett and not without a lack of trying. There was/is just something missing there for me and I know it isn’t because I’m not familiar with Kol, there’s just nothing that draws me to him.

Yeah you have to go change that in settings. If you commented on something in someone else’s post you get notifications on all of their comments. It’s annoying and I don’t understand the function.

In the immediate aftermath of her disastrous Halloween, Bonnie does her best to take back her life (because with just one short visit she feels as if Klaus has stolen a piece of it away from her).
She has to.
After all, there are playdates to arrange, lunches to pack and a meeting of the neighborhood association that she has been actively hoping to avoid (all the while knowing she will attend).
