I don’t really think Vicki qualifies as being a part of the triangle, her storyline was more attached to Matt.
Here is the thing about Beremy and my opinion on them is definitely framed by the fact that I now know that the only other relationship Bonnie is really in is with Enzo and I think Bonenzo is bullshit, but the thing about Beremy is that Jeremy goes hard for her (especially in season 2) and I don’t think that’s quite acknowledged.
I definitely think that Kat deserved a better screen partner because Steve didn’t really have much of a presence onscreen
but I do think his lack of presence is also why a lot of good and cute Beremy scenes go unnoticed.
and I don’t think their chemistry was bad, like it’s not Grahamwood chemistry, it’s not Somergraham chemistry but it’s not like Steroline flat or Delena cringey, it’s decent:
The way Enzo is
supposed to love Bonnie, I think we actually see with Bonnie and Jeremy
Jeremy is this puny pre-hunter human but he goes into the tomb for
the moonstone so Bonnie won’t have to use her magic.
In 2×18 when it was
all don’t tell Elena that Bonnie will die trying to take down Klaus,
Jeremy essentially chose Bonnie by telling Stefan what was going to
happen.
Like look at the way he smiles here:
But, but, he cheated.
And here’s the thing about that. I can understand the fact that Jeremy never really got closure from Anna and that seeing your girlfriend get dragged out, screaming, by cops and knowing that your uncle killed her would be traumatic:
But it’s like JP wanted to humiliate Bonnie with this triangle because first of all, Bonnie is the only character who’s been cheated on and not only are the overall stakes of the show super low for the consequence of Bonnie using her magic to be Jeremy being able to see his ex-girlfriends, it’s a petty way to punish Bonnie. Moreover, it’s not just that Jeremy kissed Anna, it’s not even just that he’d been talking to her and essentially having an emotional affair with her, it’s that he degrades his relationship to Bonnie for Anna
and when Bonnie finds out, Jeremy legit couldn’t give a fuck
and he does nothing to get her back and he’s just never apologetic about it, not toward Bonnie anyway
and then it just gets to the fact that Jeremy has a tendency to only care about the women he dates when they’re about to die and it’s just, I understand why the whole Anna situation keeps people from shipping them or giving Beremy the time of day.
You see for me Jeremy cheating isn’t what soured this ship for me, it was the very clear message the writers were sending by constantly putting her with him which was that she couldn’t do any better than him. And that was something I picked up on as a casual viewer who never thought about the show beyond when it aired.
When he cheated on her I wasn’t actually mad because at the time it meant that finally she could find someone worth her time, but then they kept putting him back with her further proving my point that she can’t do better than Jeremy. In fact it’s why narratively he’s so flippant, she can’t do better than him so he can get away with anything because she always comes back.
I think Jeremy in season 2 was worth Bonnie’s time because he actively cared about her and courted her, nearly died for her, did his best to protect her and was awed by her.
And that still doesn’t negate my point that the best Bonnie could do was Elena Gilbert’s brother.
OK. I guess I just don’t see how that’s a point.
Him being her brother doesn’t mean anything if he was treating her like he treated her in season 2. Your putting a lower value on him being Elena’s younger brother has nothing to do with him doing right by her. Those have nothing to do with each other.
Well exactly. The idea that Bonnie deserves better than Elena’s brother was always something I found odd when that has nothing to do with the fact that he went hard for her and cared about her and didn’t act like it was a stupid crush until JP ruined Beremy with Anna.
It’s not just that, why did the writers pair him off with her in the first place? He as a character had no value or purpose so they just stuck her with him. And I’m not just saying that because I don’t like the character, I’m saying that because that’s literally what happens. In the mascarade episode he keeps butting his way in but there nothing for him to do so they just stick him with Bonnie which is a pattern that continues throughout the season. It’s funny you mention this being better than B/E because that’s literally the same shit they did with Enzo. Absolutely no planning went into either ship.
This becomes the basis of every interaction they have from then on–him needing relevance so the writers stick him with Bonnie. Which sets the stage for the biggest issue–he’s the best she can do. She doesn’t pick him because he’s the right choice, she picks him because he’s her only choice and the same for him and given the context of this show that’s a very deliberate move on the writers part which continues to paint her as asexual, a common trope for the black best friend character.
He’s devalue for being Elena’s little brother because he hasn’t proven to be anything else other than that. The most his character gets bumped up to is the kid that follows Bonnie around. Much like Enzo the only thing that ties him to the plot is Bonnie while doing absolutely no favors for her. They honestly should have stuck with what they originally had which was pairing him off with Tyler–he had value there.

Yeah, she’s aware, more than we are, what replying to that comment will lead to.
As for why she stayed on the show, there’s many reason but I’m going to list a few:
1) Her contract wasn’t up. While they could kill Bonnie, and thus fire her, at any moment the same wasn’t true for her. She could have quit if she wanted but that would have stopped her from being able to take other work not just due to the contract but also risk being blacklisted. If I recall correctly sometime before season 5 she tried to get out with the perfect opening of Bonnie’s death but of course Plec kept her on because how can the show function with her magic fix-it.
2) Kinda in that same vein but for different reasons, she didn’t want to be blacklisted. For the same reasons why Paul, Ian, and Nina can talk shit about the show but not her, she isn’t given the luxury of doing what she wants due to racial biases. You think the fandom is crazy every time she expresses any displeasure with the show and call her “ungrateful” imagine how Hollywood would react. To them she was always a diversity quota, if she steps out of line they’re going to move on to the next one who “acts right” acts “grateful” for the opportunity.
3) As you stated, she thought they’d treat Bonnie better, and if you’ll notice right when contract was about to end was when Bonnie’s storylines were getting better and it looked like she was going to be a lead. Of course we know what happens after that, and Kat does too because right after the BS from season 7 she announced season 8 as her last season which is when her next contract expired.
4) Steady paycheck. Like it or not TVD was the most consistent work she’d ever had which is such a shame because she spent a lot of her time on the show worried they were going to kill her off any second so she saved her money before getting some basic things she needed. We already know that everyone who stayed stayed simply for the money and continues staying because that’s all they have, but now Kat isn’t in need of the steady paycheck they provided because she now has steady work and just continues to get more.
Now that she doesn’t need TVD she has stayed classy in separating herself from it by ignoring anything to do with even when she’s promoting her stuff, unlike a certain other cast mate (Nina), she’s finally speaking out about some of the things she faced while on the show, and still manages to be active with her fans. I’m happy for her and I’m happy that she continues to ignore everything to do with that toxic fandom.
